Last summer, I had the opportunity to be referred to Ms. Sharon Goldmacher by my long time family friend, Ms. Judith Williams. While talking to Judith I was introduced to Ms. Sharon Goldmacher. She started a full-service marketing PR firm specializing in brand development, product launch campaigns, media relations, as well as providing marketing, PR, and promotion services. We have met once, however, I never go to formally speak with her. The interview is mandatory in order to get information for my Basic Marketing Management class, but I ended up learning so much more than what was required. As expected, it was a great opportunity…

This allows for day-to-day feedback from mothers which is effective to gain in-depth and accurate explanations. The audio diaries were recorded each day for 7 days and reviewed by the researcher so the mothers were further questioned based on their feeding experiences and issues that emerged. This is more likely to capture every minute and the interviewer can then probe further regarding specific areas that were not covered in the audio diaries and ask questions that are more relevant to the study. Data was collected in the first 5-6 weeks post-partum during hospital based and community maternity care which is a crucial time for establishing breastfeeding, so data may be more credible. However, the women are from the same region, all white British and are all educated so are likely to have similar expectations and experiences with healthcare professionals, whereas someone from a different culture/region would have different expectations. Additionally, only 4 women gave birth through caesarean, 14 women were in their 30s, 5 were in their 20s and 2 were in their teens. This is not a balanced selection even though more women give birth in their 30s nowadays. Using educated participants can however result in gaining articulate responses. This article combines previous research with its own to bring…

Structured interview is a specific set of questions that can be asked to any person to help diagnose an abnormal psychological disorder. Before I began my structured interview I read through the set of questions to get the flow of the interview. I also tried to imagine what a person might hold back about and made some side notes on how I would try to encourage the patient to give more information. I have not given many formal interviews such as the structured interview. If I were to become a clinician I would probably prefer the unstructured format. However I did learn several things about clinical interviews and there were things that I did and did not like. In the following paragraphs I will describe my trial experience.…

The sample from the data set shared in the paper provided 189 values with 10 different variables involving mothers and their newborn babies. The information was used to analyze the statistical data of the sample to identify low birth weight of babies and any relation to the other provided variables. The analytics were conducted through the use of two descriptive analysis tests, three hypotheses testing, and a multiple regression model. The descriptive analysis basically showed that the average age of the moms seemed to be around the age of 23. The descriptive analysis also showed that the majority of the moms weighed between 100 and 125-pounds at their last menstrual age. The descriptive analysis testing provided information, but how the information was relevant to the low birth…

Since the study focuses on human experiences, it is appropriate to use the semi structured interview as a means of collecting subjective data. Participants were 20 pregnant women in their first trimester and still contemplating on nuchal translucency screening. Polit and Beck (2006) argue that phenomenological studies usually use 10 or less people to serve as a sample. Hawthorne and Ahern’s sample contradicts having 10 more. The interview process took place on each of the participants’ homes for about 70 minutes. Some were interviewed in their workplace during lunch break. It could be argued that some interviews could be rushed and therefore may result in inaccuracy. Conducting an interview in a workplace also does not provide privacy and a decent environment and this may have irritated some of the respondents. Follow up interviews were also conducted which may indicate some of the respondents’ unwillingness to participate. Interviewers were also not described and training for the interviewers was also not mentioned. The semi structured interview starts off with the interviewers asking general and broad questions where the respondents come in and relate their own experience. The interviewers let them lead on, sharing past experiences, opening new aspects of the topic, and raising their own ideas on particular…

A research critique aims to measure the value and significance of a study. These are determined by analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the report (Brockopp & Tolsma, 2003, p. 400). Recommendations for areas of improvements are also included in a research critique. This paper critically appraises a qualitative research article titled "Women's perception of being pregnant and having pregestational diabetes" (Lavender, T., Platt, M. J., Tsekiri, E., Casson, I., Byrom, S., Baker, L., et al., 2010, p. 589-595).…
