Self Fulfilling Prophecy Essay

The self-fulfilling prophecy is a term that has a literal meaning – it has often been described as a prediction that either directly or in-directly causes itself to become true due to the correlations between the idea and the actions one takes after the prediction has been made. This type of thought process is imperative in achieving goals as just through hearing the prophecy your actions will change to act as if the prediction has already been fulfilled. So, whether a teacher gave you extra help on an exam because they saw potential in you, your boss thought you were lazy and began to micromanage you, or you told your sibling how annoying they were and they just became more annoying, you are engaging in self-fulfillling prohecy behaviour. Meaning, you are generating the exact response you hypothesized through changing your actions to meet the prophecy. However, In order to achieve a self-fulfilling prophecy, four main steps must have be undertaken by at least two people, so before you ask, the little engine that could was not engaged in a self-fulfilling prophecy, shocking, I know. Firstly, the perciever must have a pre-determined expectation about how the target will behave. Secondly, the perciever behaves in a way that will likely elicity the expected behaviour from the target. Thirdly, the expectations are met by the target.
