Self Evaluation Through Gods Eyes
*1 Corithians15: 1- 5

Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ die for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve…

(Now has Christ truly appeared in your life?)

(Who are you?) If I were to ask you to tell me about yourself, what would you say? Will your response reflect the environment that shaped your life as you grew older? Your experience living through life? Or the culture you live in? (Who are you?)

To what or whom do you base your response?

*Every hour, minute and even second, the enemy invades the life of our youth, and our homes across the world. Not by breaking down windows and doors, but by deception; leading to drugs, stealing, drinking, gambling, pornography, casual sex, divorce and homosexuality.

*Someone who is deceived has accepted "as true or valid what is false or invalid" (Webster). Likewise, one who deceives others convinces them to accept, as truth, something false.

There are numerous warnings in the Bible concerning deceit, deception, deceivers, and being deceived by self or others.
One of the best Biblical examples of deception is referenced by Paul in 1 Timothy 2:14 saying: "And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression." Eve knew the truth. She knew that God had commanded her not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. But, the serpent convinced her that God had told her a lie saying: " . . . You shall not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil" (Gen. 3:4-5).

The Bible states in (Proverbs 6:16-19) " These six things the Lord hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil. (New King James Holy Bible, 1997) A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren". Scripture tells us that God hates lying and being deceitful or bearing false witness upon another. According to Joseph Stowell, " Beguilement, deceit, lying, and false witness are all methods of Satan to defeat God 's glory in us and through us". As Christians if we choose to use ethical violations when we are speaking we would in no way be portraying the true meaning of Christianity or God.…

The death, burial, and resurrection of Christ Jesus are at the crux of Christianity. In hind sight what seemed like foolishness to some on lookers has become the wisdom of God triumphing over evil by the death of His Christ Jesus on the cross. Like the stanza of a well known verse, Christ cried out, “God, my God, why have You forsaken me?” This cry from the cross on the day of His crucifixion was not a cry of defeat, on the contrary; it was a cry of victory in the ears of those familiar with the blessed twenty second Psalm written by His very namesake David the king, the priest, the psalmist. Victory…

How hard can it be to fool someone? There are fables and scrolls from ages past that tell of the clever villain scheming away, plotting to trick the dashing hero. Although it has negative connotations, foolery is certainly an art. Humanity is skeptical, and to be a true trickster you must be smart, and quick thinking as to address any unexpected accusations thrown your way. Some people may say that the Archaeoraptor was a talentless sham, but I believe that it was executed seamlessly. It’s not just a fraud- it’s a story, a tale about an illegal sale made on a black market, an account of a fraud that would deceive scientists, a narrative where a nation was fooled. We all wanted to believe it, too. Maybe that…

Furthermore, thievery was used when “Prometheus had not only stolen fire for men; he had also arranged that they should get the best part of any animal sacrificed…” (87). Even though his stealing of fire was for the better, Prometheus was punished for treating the gods in such a way. People, too, tend to make bad decisions, but with good intentions without thinking of the possible outcomes or consequences. In addition to thievery, trickery played a major role when “the Greeks had to find a secret way of entering the city, or accept defeat” (283). By disguising a large wooden horse where the Greeks were hidden as a gift to the Trojans, the Greeks deceived them to believe they had given up. Likewise, deception is used by humans to get what is wanted or defeat enemies. On the subject of deception, Odysseus was to use trickery to “persuade him who they had wronged to give his precious weapon to them” (280). In this case, deception was used to better Odysseus’ chance of survival rather than that of the man who was left behind. Human beings also like to trick others into doing or giving them what they want. Deception can be used for better r for worse when it comes to dealing with…

Within the chapter, Ellens adamantly presents a recurring theme involving the importance of recognizing and understanding the functionality of psychology and spirituality as they pertain to the operation of the human spirit (Ellens , "The Unfolding Christian Self", 1992). It is his belief that one’s psychological development and spiritual growth are intrinsically connected, consequently presenting us with the dyad of the unfolding Christian, the duality being the unpredictable growth of the spirit and the predictable patterns of psychological development (Ellens , "The Unfolding Christian Self", 1992). In the interest of further delving deeper into this matters, Ellens briefly analyzed the works of Jean Piaget, via Margaret Krych, Erik Erikson, Lawrence Kohlberg, James W. Fowler, and Robert C. Fuller. Upon the conclusion of his transitory assessment of the Fowler’s work, Ellens transitioned an in-depth…

    (1) The Christian Gospel is perceived in various ways within our culture. One way the Christian gospel is perceived is through the use of religion as a way for people to do good in order to obtain happiness and rewards. This interpretation of the Christian gospel encourages people to think more about the gifts of works, than the salvation of God. Through this people see a list of rules that they have to follow in order to be Christian. The Christian Gospel is also used as a way to repent for one’s sins in order to be saved. Through belief, the Christian Gospel is perceived as something to build faith and trust in, for “If Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; and your are still in your sins!” (Corinthians 15:17).…

The Bible provides many powerful examples of temptation. A most recognizable illustration of temptation is Adam and Eve’s insolence toward God in the book of Genesis. In this story, God has planted the Garden of Eden and set Adam and Eve there to watch over it, allowing them to eat from all the trees in the garden except the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. A serpent, living in the Tree of Knowledge, tempts Eve into eating the fruit of the tree by saying it will make her more like God. The woman then convinces Adam to disregard God’s warning, thus causing each of them to succumb to temptation. God discovers their failure to abide by his rules and burdens Adam and Eve with humanity, including difficult labor and painful childbirth because they could not resist temptation. God insists that mankind not disregard His rules, even in the face of temptation. He wants mankind to rise above devilish seduction and lead faith-based lives. This message is also evident in the Lord’s Prayer when addressing God: “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” These words confess man’s weakness when confronting temptation, and ask God to shelter him from persuasion, because…
