Self Esteem essay
Self-Esteem Although they are very closely related, there are differences between self-esteem, self-efficacy, and self-concept. Self-esteem is your feelings toward yourself. How you feel about your self-worth or how you value yourself. With self-efficacy, how you perform tasks, how you handle or succeed tasks is important. If you have low self-efficacy, you believe you cannot handle or succeed at tasks. If you have high self-efficacy, you will have high motivation and feel you can achieve the tasks at hand and succeed at them. Self-concept feeds off of your self-esteem. If you have high self-esteem you will have more positive self-concepts. A few aspects of Pat’s self-esteem and concepts are, she feels isolated and alone when she goes home a night. Although she does enjoy working in the office environment for opportunities to talk or start conversations with her peers, she is hesitant to start conversations, or even to join into conversations due to the feeling of not having anything in common with her fellow employees. This could potentially harm her ability to perform her work tasks. If she starts becoming more concerned with her self-esteem, and not being able to talk to her co-workers, this could turn into a large distraction. There are a few different things Pat can start working on to help raise her self-esteem. First she can set certain daily goals for herself, and complete them. Goals such as talking to at least one of her co-workers she hasn’t spoken to before. If she improves her work tasks and builds up her self-efficiency, that will also give her a confidence boost to help complete her goals. She also can behave as if she is confidant, even though she is not. Her colleagues will notice this and it will help the tension of trying to start in a conversation.

    Self- esteem and self-efficacy are two phases often time mistaking with each other, different but closely related. As defined by Webster Dictionary, self efficacy is defined as how confident a person is in his or her own abilities, either in general or directed toward a specific task or activity. Self-esteem is more a person 's idea of his or her own self-worth, which can be related or unrelated to his or her abilities. The key word that separates the two is idea. In self efficacy a person knows his or her ability, Baack stated, "The expectation that you will succeed evolves over a series of years. Where as with self esteem it is all in their head, high self esteem or low self esteem. Example of self efficacy; Game 6 of the NBA finals, 4th quart game tied with 4.2 seconds remaining ,without thinking about it, Lebron James shoots a three pointer with two defenders in his face to win the game. A shot he had be making all series. Same scenario, Lebron James hesitates and thinks about shooting the three pointer, a decision based on his self worth as to how he has performed throughout the series.…
