Thesis statement

Trying to mould ourselves into the perfect image that is portrayed by the media is a waste of time and money. So don’t try to obtain something that is false mirror image. Look where it left Michael Jackson, stressed and obsessed.

One can ask the question who decided how we must look and dress.? Is it a false perception created by society. Do we point the blame finger at ourselves or at people from the past? Ancient Egyptian and roman cultures tried to attain the perfect Roman body image. We can see this in the statues and paintings. So perhaps this is where the perception started.

The media today is partly to blame for peoples negative self image and inferiority complex. Counselors and teachers have to deal with these issues that are prevalent today. Teens try to fit into this “ perfect image” that celebrities and the media portray. Once they realize they cannot obtain this perfect image they can become depressed or suicidal. At the root of addiction and other emotional problems is low self worth, which is exasperated by this pursuing of the perfect image.

The perfect image is unattainable by some members of society because of financial lack. Those that are determined to obtain the perfect image get into bad debt trying to meet the standard of perfection causing more stress. If we focus on self acceptance , their would not be so many social problems. Parents and teachers need to teach children that it is ok to be themselves. And they don’t have to look like Britney Spears or Justin Beaver to be accepted. We are not carbon copies , but unique individuals made in the image of God.

Driving the latest car or having the newest dress does not make us acceptable in the eyes of others. This is what I called self deception. People will always find fault with what we wear and how we look. So this is a useless endeavor. The best is to accept yourself and...
