“ If you have a dream, don’t let anyone take it away and always believe that the impossible is always possible. “ Selena Quintanilla was basically saying to dream big and to never give up for any circumstances. Anything is possible if you put all your effort in it. Selena listened to her own advice. She became what she always dreamed to be, and she accomplished many things before she died. Selena Quintanilla was an important figure in the Hispanic society because she was a Latin American who lived here in the United States facing all the changes in racism, but overall she became a very successful famous singer.

    In effect, by glossing over Selena’s transition into the Latin American the film Selena ignores her accomplishments in the Latin American market which was not easy to enter.     Different areas that speak Spanish have different dialects. Some of these areas do consider people from other areas to be outsiders.     Abraham, Selena’s father, worked hard to make a living for his family. He was the considered the head of the household and the decision maker for the family. The mother was the nurturer who provided for the family by maintaining the house and cooking meals. The children were to go to school and listen to their parent’s and follow the rules, or they would be disciplined. When it came to the band, the father was in charge of everyone and setting up the performances. He was the primary contact for anything to do with the band, he made all the decisions.     Gloria Anzaldua’s Borderlands explores the identity of a people caught between two cultures: the Anglo-American culture and that of the indigenous Aztecs of the Southwest United States, the mestizo.
