Seed Germination Lab Hypothesis
One thing that almost every living thing needs to be able to live is seeds. Seeds provide a food source that is not from meat and herbivores are able to survive. Different seeds can from both plants, and fruits. When plants want to reproduce the plants make seeds that can be dispersed by air, water, or animals and the seeds that survive find a place in the ground to start grow. For some plants, the seeds are in protective shelling like fruits and pinecones. This extra protection layer is there to allow the seeds to make it new ground by animals and humans carrying it around. Most times seeds that people pull out of an apple and throw out can be used to make an apple tree in the right conditions, but the seeds get thrown out. Seeds have to have certain conditions to be able to grow and it is important that humans understand which conditions foster seed growth and which conditions hurt seed growth. There have been a lot of studies done on the growth of seeds which is called seed germination. The reason why I am doing this experiment is to find which lighting is the best for the germination of Z. mays. With the information from the experiment, I can use it and others can use it to because Z. mays is a very common seed that anyone can get and plant. In an environment that has light all the time Z. mays had a better germination speed and germination rate (Idikut, 2012). If Z. mays are in environments that are over 38C then they start to not germinate as well (Miedema, 1982). Knowing that environments that are in the hotter range tells us that if Z. mays grow in an environment that has too much sun then Z. mays will not germinate well in those

    Germination in plants is the process in which dormant seed begins to grow and sprout under certain growing conditions. The English pea, also known as the garden pea, is a member of the legume family and is known to grow roughly three to four inches long. Research shows that it only takes approximately 1 week for the seed to start to germinate. There are many things that can affect, the growth of the pea seed such as; temperature, moisture, planting depth and sunlight. The pea grows best in temperatures between 7˚C -14˚C, any lower or higher temperatures may affect the seed germination. Seeds remain inactive until conditions are right for germination. All seeds need water, oxygen, and proper temperature in order to germinate.
