Sea Animals

Sea animals are very helpful to people. They are also unique in their own ways. The world would be completely different without sea animals. My experience of sea animals was when I went to the National Aquarium in Baltimore. In the aquarium, I saw many fish that can do cool tricks and live in interesting habitats. One thing I learned about stingray fish is that the eat shrimp and other small fishes. Also, the aquarium contained many other animals such as monkeys, snakes, sloths, and more. Marine Mammals Marine mammals are a very diverse group. There are very diverse because of their shape, size, color and even the way they eat. Sea mammals are such a big group that they have only 120 species under the sea right now. Marine mammals evolved from their land dwelling ancestors. This means that all the marine mammals that we have now came from land mammals. Since they evolved from land dwellers, they got some of its traits or features. Marine mammals are much endangered. The main reason why marine mammals are endangered is because of their treasure full sources. For example, one reason why human kill marine mammals is because of their blubber, meat, or ivory. Unique Marines In general, one way how marine mammals are unique is that the biggest animal in the world is a marine mammal. The biggest animal is the blue whale. The blue whale is a marine mammal and is very big. Whales are unique because of the way they sleep. It is interesting how they rest. Whales can divide portions of their brain and make one of them sleep while the others are functioning. Then the whale makes another portion sleep while the others work. By the end of the day, each portion has gotten a required amount of rest. Dolphins are unique because of their super hearing. Dolphins are so amazing that they can go to an exact place using only their ears. There hearing is so splendid that they

The evolution of whales has long been a mystery to researchers. A whale has so many derived characteristics of a land mammal, such as a large brain, it breathes air, gives birth to live young and is warm blooded, and yet it still manages to live in the sea. Evolutionists believe that the ancestors of whales were land mammals that during the process of evolution lost their legs and became adapted to an aquatic lifestyle. The controversy is that evolution teaches that the first animals crawled out of the sea onto land and not reverse. How could this transformation of whales from land mammals to marine mammals happen? What group of land mammals gave rise to whales? Thanks to a profusion of intermediate fossils that were discovered within the past few years, these questions can be answered and the transformation of whales has become more clear.…

Killer Whale, largest member of the dolphin family. Killer whales occur in more parts of the world than probably any other cetacean (see Whale). They occur in all oceans, both in the open ocean and close to shore, but are more common in the colder, more productive waters of both hemispheres than in the Tropics. Resident populations may cover an area of several hundred square kilometers. Transient populations often move through an area rapidly, swimming more than 1000 km (more than 600 mi) along a shoreline in a matter of days. Killer whales are black or deep brown overall, with striking white patches above the eye and from the lower jaw to the belly, and a fainter grayish-white saddle patch just under and behind the dorsal fin. Males are somewhat…

Quite different from the fast pace life of a hummingbird, is that of the largest mammal in the world, a blue whale (274). “It weighs more than seven tons. It’s as big as a room” Doyle writes about the heart inside the largest mammal on Earth (274). With something as large as the blue whale, it takes a massive heart to power a mammal that 100ft. long, and because it is so massive, the heart beats slowly. Doyle explains that while there are 10,000 blue whales on Earth we know almost nothing about their social lives, their habitat or really anything about them for that matter. Although we know very little about blue whales, Doyle writes “But we know this, the animals with the largest hearts in the world generally travel in pairs” (274).…

Sharks and dolphins are both ocean creatures. From afar they look alike but are contrasting ocean creatures. One of the main allusions is that they are the same type of creature, but a shark is a fish while a dolphin is a mammal. Because sharks are fish, they are cold blooded, and because dolphins are mammals they are warm blooded. Dolphins have blow holes and can only stay under water for up to seven to twelve minutes. Although sharks do not have blow holes, they have five to seven gills on their side and stay under water their whole life. Sharks swim by moving their tail and bodies side to side; instead dolphins move their tails and bodies up and down. Lastly, one more main difference between a dolphin and a shark is the dorsal fin; on a dolphin the dorsal fin at the top is curve, yet on sharks the dorsal fin is straight. While they both live in the ocean, these are just a few points about how sharks and dolphins are truly different ocean creatures.…

One of the days that my family and I was in Cancun we spent a whole day swimming with dolphins. At first I was scared to jump in a pool with dolphins but the longer that I was there the more comfortable I got. The first thing that we did was feel the dolphins. Dolphin’s skin is smooth and soft as a new born baby’s skin. The reason for that is that dolphins shed a layer of skin every 2 hours. By spending a whole day with dolphins I learned many things about them. The main thing that I learned was that they…

Weight must be more evenly distributed in a terrestrial animal, as it is not supported by water. So since the dolphins and whales live underwater, they will feel lighter due to the water mass or volume. Because that volume is higher than their mass or proportions, they can easily move. But for a animal in terrestrial, since they do not live underwater but on land, the mass or volume of the land is lower than theirs. So their body size is heavier than mammals that live underwater.…
