I selected ‘To what extent has screen time impacted childhood obesity in Australia?’ as my research question since I wanted to study a topic surrounding the well-being of children due to my strong intention of working in that area. I had witnessed that screen time and obesity were becoming more frequent news topics and wanted to know more.…
In my oppion it is more important to provide children with free time to engage in imaginative and creative play, than to ensure that children participate in organized activities.…
Children should not have screen time taken away from them it's apart of everyday life. I feel as if certain television shows help toddlers learn things also smaller childer(ages 5-9). There are all types of networks created just for them. There's:PBS Kids, Channel thirteen, Sprout, Nick jr. etc. Also they have websites for children too. ABC mouse helps so much. My little brother uses it on a daily, and his vocabulary has improved so much just to be almost two years old.…
It appears that science is also concerned with the possible effects that extensive screen watching has on a growing brains. Nino Ramirez, director of the Center of Integrative Brain Research at Seattle Children’s Hospital, did research on mice to see the effects that rapid screen-switching may have on teenager’s brains. He discovered that the mice who had similar stimuli as screen-switching when put in a maze took three times longer than the mice who had not had the stimuli. The effect was permanent. When he scanned the brains he found that there were fewer nerve cells, the cells that are responsible for learning and memory. Nowadays with all new types of technology, people and teenagers in specific spend a lot of time on their screens. Excessive screen time is a major issue that needs to be monitored. It could really affect many people in many different ways. It could possibly even be dangerous if one uses it to much. Too much screen time has a negative affect socially, emotionally, and mentally for developing teenagers, because they won't develop the appropriate social skills, they can see pictures that can be emotionally detrimental for them, and it can be harmful for their health.…
While there are people who say screen time helps children’s grades, screen time really poses a threat to children’s academic success. For example an article from BBC News states that“A team from Cambridge University…
After reading these two articles, I did some thinking. Both of them have valid reasoning, but in my opinion, I think screen time is unhealthy for children.…
Today many children are overfilled with many structured activity .While many children are in sports, music lesson,or even karate are not harmful to themselves ,these activites can fill their days so complete that they dont have time for anything else. I think children need to choose on activites based what their interest are. This helps them develops creativity and a strong sense of them self ,this can help them become independent thinkers, and interact with peers.Organized activities could rely on rules, schedules and usally adult control, which can hinder a parent child with freedom of expression. With creative play ,children can use thier imaginations and develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. They could…
Video and computer games, like many popular, entertaining and addicting kid activities, are looked down on by many parents as time wasters, but why?, is it because they are harmful?, or is it simply because they are spending too much time on them instead of studying. Both have many good arguments, but I am going to write about the one in which I feel are most valid.…
Although technology can be beneficial if used moderately, over-dependence and excess usage has a negative impact on young children. Today, we’ll first discuss how devices affect the bond between parents and children. Then, we’ll take a look at how health issues can arise from the overuse of electronic devices. Finally, we’ll examine how unreasonable amounts of screen-time affects how well they perform in school.…
According to the article “How TV Affects Your Child”, the first 2 years of a child's life is critical for brain development. It goes on to state that TV can interfere with children interacting with other children which encourages learning and healthy physical and social development. The author believes that advocates are pushing for more educational television, but most feel zero television time is the solution. I do agree with the author when they state that they feel it is important for parents to monitor the content of what a child is watching and limits how much time is spent in front of a television. However, I do not think that no television is the answer. Let's take a look at some pros of television.…
I know quite a few parents who allow their children to play on the computer for hours on end and others who don’t allow the child to go online other than to do homework. Both sets of children act and interact very differently. I feel that it is our moral responsibility to give our children,…
To illustrate, the American Academy of Pediatrics discourages the use of media from children under the age of two and recommends limiting older children's screen time to no more than one or two hours a day. Therefore, the decrease of screen time allows for the opportunity of activities or creative play. If not taken with precaution, more screen time can lead to children overeating and possibly develop an appetite for junk food promoted in TV ads. Since children are more vulnerable than adults, TV commercials try to focus their advertising towards young innocent children. Although less screen time would be beneficial to help end childhood obesity, many people enjoy the pleasures of watching…
Children develop and learn so much at a very young age. They absorb everything they see and hear. They best learn through touch, sight, and sound. Using a device such as a touch I-pad, or I-phone a child can interact on their level. There are so many Apps available for children of all ages. They will help a child develop at their capability and speed, while learning. I feel they will absorb more knowledge with a educational hands on device rather then TV. Children have to interact and use their brains in order for the App to work. Placing a child in front of a TV to just sit and learn, they do not get the same hands on experience.…
