Another symbol includes the 2 Eggs, the East Egg and the West. “I lived at West Egg, the – well, the less fashionable of the two, though this is the most superficial tag to express the bizarre and not a little sinister contrast between them.” West Egg represents the new rich, or the people who earned it by working hard. It isn’t as fancily decorated as the other, the East Egg. “”Oh, I’ll stay in the East, don’t you worry.” He said, glancing at Daisy and then back at me, as if he were alert for something more.” East Egg represents the old rich, who had money passed down from generations to generation. These people were full of themselves and do not care for anyone else who are not like them. They do not view the new rich to be of equal status as them, even though they both have a lot of…

Arthur Gordon creates an ironic twist at the end of “The Alchemist’s Secret” by making the setting and mood of the story a complete opposite from the ending. The setting of the story is innocent enough, with a “little herb shop” on a “crooked street in the shadow of Notre Dame”. The words “gaslit shop” connotate an old fashioned (or, in the case of this story, just old) and cozy room. It is shocking to the reader when it is uncovered that the store is where the Doctor arranges to kill people for a living. Once the reader becomes accustomed to that idea, the visitor is viewed as a cold, cruel person. Although initially he is nervous, (“said the visitor nervously”, glanced around uneasily”) he is found to be ruthless. “The visitor’s face was…

    Egg Horror Poem Summary

As mentioned in the prior paragraph, the line “they are alone again, in the cold” (Line 34-35) reminds us that we will be alone, left to mourn the death of our friends. The eggs are timid, or fearful, yet they are desperate enough to “...Jostle in their compartments” (Line 10) to be ugly, but not hurt themselves. The eggs are very strong within their shells as they wonder about whether they will become breakfast on any given day, yet they realize how fragile they are from external forces, if they are selected. Fear of being someone’s cake reminds us how many people are so fearful that they won’t take chances; they would rather wait out their lives in a carton, cold and in the dark, then live their life or sacrifice it. The eggs ‘pray’ in line 28, as many people do, but eventually death comes to all living things. The theme of “An egg horror poem” is relatable to people across cultures, language and time, making “Egg horror Poem” a poetry…

Throughout both stores, the protagonists go through changes in their lives, judgements by society and the act of feeling worthless due to isolation. Together, Mrs. Wright and Olenka demonstrate changes in their lifestyle after marriage when what they love can no longer be in their possession. At the same time, both are judged by the members of their society without knowledge on the events in their lives. Isolation from neighbours and the community result in Mrs. Wright and Olenka growing the sense of insignificance to others. Isolation also creates psychological changes in the characters’ well-being. If they only have the opportunity to love one thing, they will never want it taken out of their hands and if it is they will be left with a scar. On the whole, over a long period of time, isolation creates negative effects on human beings and can create a whole different…
