Science Literacy Research Paper
Science Literacy Literacy is interpreted different by people. For example, some think that science literacy is being able to think for yourselves, surrounding, and using your senses. While other believe science literacy is the knowledge and understanding of the scientific process and its concepts. In my opinion, science literacy is still not achievable because of the constant change of technology. Today, there is a rapid growth in technology and this has caused us to not be able to keep up with all the information that is getting publish. All of the resources for this course have indicated that science literacy is a combination of attitudes, process skills, and standards-based content knowledge. Standard-based content knowledge is all of the basic skills of science. For example, Newton Laws of motion, water cycle, states of matter, etc. In other words, content knowledge is the different concepts that one learns in science classes. These are the lessons that one grew up learning in elementary, middle, and high school. So, part of obtaining science literacy is knowing and comprehending these basic fundamental rules of science. In this course we learned about life, physical, and earth science. Moreover, we learned about the rules that cannot infringe because they have be proven and science has evolved …show more content…
In this case, the teacher should create a positive attitude to promote science literacy. This has to do with the fact of establishing a positive learning environment. The teacher and students should have an open mind for any science topic. Not to forget, that in general a teacher should always a positive attitude toward any material that is given to the students. Promoting and have a positive attitude toward science is important because it make you curious. Furthermore, being curious make the person ask questions. Indeed this a very important factor that contribute toward obtain science

    The format of this source was in the style of a newspaper article which had clear bold headlines, but not a large enough size to attract your attention although the headlines did highlight the purpose of the article. The font was used continuously throughout the article and kept at a similar size. The audience was mainly aimed towards the public, with an informal tone used as no jargon was used and also no terminology used in order to make it harder to understand, therefore simpler language was used, which best fit the tone used with the audience it was aimed at. With the argument of the author being about the cuts being made in the sexual health services such as Family Planning (FPA) and Brook, the argument clearly stresses the concern at the higher statistics of young people with catching Sexual Transmitted Infections and pregnancy. The Article only contained one image which promoted contraception, showing what kind of services are offered in both Brook and FPA. The language used was in a sense of concern and anxiety with words like “vulnerable” (Williams, 2012) being used, which suggests that concern is being raised. With the lack of statistics and facts used I was not as convinced as I could have been , having said that the articles use of language made it easier to understand so the language used best fit the audience intended. The argument was convincing as it did make me realize the importance of the sexual health services, but as said before, if facts and statistics were included the argument would have been enhanced into an excellent argument.…
