My project is about how much salt it will take for objects to float. In my project I will explain why certain objects float while others sink. I took three different objects with different amount of density and put them each in ten cups of water. I then put in teaspoons of water and recorded whether or not the objects floated until all the objects were floating. I was able to see how an objects density affects how much salt is needed to make it float.…

My science fair project is about the sound transmission through different veneers. A veneer is the outer part of the house. It can also be called a siding. The veneers I used were brick, cement fiber, and vinyl. I used these because they were three very common veneers. I thought if I used common veneers it would make the project mean more because people can see sound transmission through common sidings.…

In performing this experiment, students apprehend and grasp the concept of the “scientific method” and its segments. The scientific method is analytically preceded by researchers to answer a question(s). First, the analyst states the problem based on contemplations. Next, a hypothesis is formed, which means the analyst made an educated guess (solution) to the problem. Before an experiment is performed the analyst has to make a prediction. A prediction is what the person assumes the outcome of the experiment will be, if their hypothesis is precise. When making a prediction it is stated in a manner of “if…..then…” Then the analyst tests the hypothesis. The experiment is manipulated so that changes to one variable cause another to interchange in order to fit your hypothesis. Variables are facts or conditions that are changed. There are three main variables in the scientific method; dependent variable, independent variable and controlled variable. Dependent variable is variables affected by the independent variable. Independent variable is the variables being tested. Controlled variable is variables that remain constant in the experiment. In this experiment five males and five females whose pulse rate and respiratory rate were recorded before and after exercising, to determine cardiovascular fitness with respect to gender. The controlled variables were the environment conditions, same time-span (minutes to exercise) and the same stool. The dependent variables were pulse and respiratory rate based on gender and the independent variables were male and female.…

A well-designed experiment tells us that changes in the explanatory variable cause changes in the response variable. More exactly, it tells us that this happened for specific subjects in the specific environment of this specific experiment. No doubt we had grander things in mind. We want to proclaim that our new method of teaching math does better for high school students in general or that our new drug beats a placebo for some broad class of patients. Can we generalize our conclusions from our little group of subjects to a wider population? The first step is to be sure that our findings are statistically significant, that they are too strong to often occur just by chance. That’s important, but it’s a technical detail that the study’s statistician can reassure us about. The serious threat is that the treatments, the subjects, or the environment of our experiment may not be realistic. For example, a psychologist wants to study the effects of failure and frustration on the relationships among members of a work team. She forms a team of students, brings them to the psychology laboratory, and has them play a game that requires teamwork. The game is rigged so that they lose regularly. The psychologist observes the students through a one-way window and notes the changes in their behavior during an evening of game playing. Playing a game in a laboratory for small stakes, knowing that the session will soon be over, is a long way from working for months developing a new product that never works right and is finally abandoned by your company. Does the behavior of the students in the lab tell us much about the behavior of the team whose product failed? Psychologists do their best to devise realistic experiments for studying human behavior, but lack of realism limits the usefulness of experiments in this area.…

This randomized experimental study was completed in a clinical setting. Treatment rooms provided a comfortable environment, free from clutter and visual and auditory distractions. Each treatment room contained furniture and equipment necessary to complete activities of daily living including a bed with a fitted sheet, chair, table, lamp, and a cabinet. Other small objects needed to complete tasks (pill box, cup, pillow, pen, paper, blanket) were organized to minimize both clutter and visual distractions. Video recording was set up in the top corner of each treatment room to document sessions for later evaluation.…

Acid Rain has a lot of effects on living organisms and on the environment. This experiment has two purposes. One is to determine the acidity of rainwater in certain areas in the Philippines. Another purpose is to determine which type of area-urban or rural- is more subjected to acid rain. The experiment was done by first collecting rainwater from selected rural and urban areas. After the collection was done, the rainwater samples were tested using a pH meter. The results of the pH test of rainwater in urban areas: in Novaliches, Quezon City, in Philcoa, Quezon City, in Katipunan, Quezon City, in Paco, Manila, and in Malate, Manila are between 6.08 to 6.10 The result of the pH test of rainwater in rural areas: in Iriga City, Bicol, in Buhi, Bicol, in Naga City, Bicol, in Calamba, Laguna, and in Biñan, Laguna are between 5.7 and 5.8. There are different aspects that affected the results; these aspects will be further discussed in the Review of Related Literature part of Chapter I. The results gathered were treated statistically using T-test to compare the pH level of the rain from urban areas and rural areas. From there, the researchers concluded that rainwater from rural areas is more acidic than the rain from urban areas. It is because rural areas are unpolluted while urban areas are drastically polluted.…
