Energy Conservation/ Non-renewable energy sources

Energy has easily become one of the most important necessities for our everyday lives. Without it we would simply not be able to have transportation or be able to gather any of our other resources that we depend on. If at anytime our energy supply ceases or no longer attainable the results may be horrific. However, it is quite easy to keep this from happening, It is crucial that our current population realize the importance of sustaining our present non-renewable resources. An examination of all the present energy issues and human impacts of energy conservation along with the a resource plan will show importance of energy sustainability how it must be a success.

The difference between renewable and non-renewable resources is essentially quite easy to grasp. Renewable resources are simply ones where they are constantly renewed or in other words restored (Berg&Hager,2007). The types of renewable energy that exists today are ones such as wind, solar and geothermal and hydro or tidal energy. Solar energy and Wind energy out the four are easily the ones with the most benefits and seem to be the most popular. According to the GAO ( United States Government Accountability Office), wind energy has the potential to provide electricity to homes and business without further polluting the air and causing more depletion of non-renewable resources. It is by far the most efficient due to the operating costs being much lower then the actual costs for the energy from fossil fuels(GAO, 2004). Solar energy is the next most energy efficient, with the next alternatives being geothermal and tidal. Consequently, non-renewable resources are those that can not be replenished or renewed. Most of these resources are fossil fuels like, coal, oil and gas (Berg&Hager,2007). Unfortunately, a massive percentage of all the North America’s energy is produced by fossil fuels and over the past several years a limited amount of these resources are available. If the current population keeps relaying so heavily on these limited types of resources our present day environment may suffer drastic pollution and destruction, which then may cause serious harm to all forms of life. It is very important to see as individuals, all humans have a responsibility to help conserve fossil fuels and utilize more alternatives.

Things that all the current population could do to help conserve valuable energy is simple tasks such as turning off lights upon living a empty room, or even unplugging unused electrical appliances. People would be amazed by how much electrical energy could be saved just by doing these two simple tasks. Not to mention how much money could be saved as well. Other simple tasks include washing all laundry in cold water or even hanging them out to air dry (Berg&Hager,2007). Business are even introducing new florescent light blubs that are available to the public that use less energy and are proven to be more energy efficient then the normal light bulbs. Fossil fuels that cause damage to the environment, gasoline is by far the most damageable and most consumed by today’s society. To put into perspective, approximately sixty percent of all air pollutions and emissions are caused by gasoline automobiles (Berg&Hager,2007). Actions that could easily cease more emissions from evaporating into our valuable atmosphere are ones like simply using non-gasoline transportations like bike cycles or physical activity like walking. Of course the massive increase of urbanization throughout the whole nation does not help the situation at all, however it is crucial to consider alternative ways of transportation. Just within this past month President Obama has finally decided to try and create a national policy that will help restrict “green-house” gas pollution from automobiles that then will result in less exhaust being emitted (Baker, 2010).
