Keeping up a behavior can be hard, “the motivation must come from within.” For the past 23 days I have been striving to change and succeed, by the 22nd of October, in two specific nutritional behavior goals. One of them was to intake at least 30 grams of fiber on weekdays and at least 25 grams on weekends. The other was to reduce my sodium intake by a quarter, on weekdays, of what it was per day and reduce it by an eighth on weekends. This preparation all started about a week before my 23 days of transformation. In the three beginning days I tracked my diet and found that my low fiber and high sodium consumptions were eye-opening problems. My average fiber intake per day rested at 21.18g, which was significantly lower than my goal of 38g per day. As this issue arose so did my awareness that multiple aspects of my health were at risk. For example, my low fiber intake could place me in danger of developing heart disease. Fiber nutrients reduce the chance of disease like heart disease, diabetes, and many other frightful illnesses. In addition, foods that consist of fiber provide a feeling of fullness without additional calories being added to a diet. As for my Sodium intake, I was recommended a target of 1500mg a day but I was actually devouring a skyrocketing 3959.4mg a day. Without thinking twice I knew I had to make significant behavior changes. Concerning my towering sodium intake, I found that high sodium consumption makes the body preserve more water, which can raise the blood volume and, in turn, increase blood pressure. Considering my high blood pressure it would be essential and crucial to lower my sodium intake. Fortunately, the data collected demonstrated that the amount of sodium I have been taking in each day has been playing a role in my elevated blood pressure. After reviewing this data and conducting research on these two nutrients I felt very serious about changing my dieting…

After filling out my super tracker report, and viewing my results, I have to say that I was not surprised. It looks as though I haven’t consumed enough vitamins in the last three days and I am over the recommended guidelines on the fat and saturated fats. My serving sizes are usually over the recommended guidelines as I do not eat as frequently as I should. I usually eat two meals a day, maybe three. I have recently been trying to lose weight and starting to eat better. I am trying to be healthier and have started drinking 3 liters of water each day.…

Other than my Cholesterol being high, I am actually right on track with the other Nutrients and Minerals. My Carbohydrates are “okay” as it say’s. I drink a lot of sports drinks so I think that’s the reason it is okay. My protein is also “okay”, I drink protein shakes everyday that I use with weight training. My total fat is “okay” as well, I try to stay away from fatty foods but It can be hard some times. When I think I need something, which I know, has a lot of fat I grab a protein bar. Which also helps with my total percent of protein. My Saturated fat is over the limit I should have. I don’t really think Saturated fats are bad but I am not a doctor. Saturated fats are derived from animal products such as meat, dairy and eggs. But they are also found in some plant-based sources such as coconut, palm and palm kernel oils. For minerals my Sodium levels are also over the target. My target…

In reviewing my dietary intake for three days, it is a little shocking overall. I am lacking in some key areas of nutrition such as the amounts of fruits and vegetables that I should be consuming, and I have an excess in areas that I should be monitoring like total fat and empty calories. I was extremely surprised at how much sodium I was receiving though. My intake of 3214 mg of sodium is much higher than the DRI recommended 1500 to 2300 mg. In order to reduce my sodium levels I will try to avoid packaged and preserved by buying fresh/natural foods instead. The only vitamins which I get less than 100% of my DRI were Vitamin A and E. I will get Vitamin A from sources such as carrots, mangoes and spinach and will get vitamin E from sunflower seeds, almonds and olives. The only minerals that were less than 100% of my DRI were magnesium and potassium. I will get magnesium from spinach, broccoli and almonds and will obtain potassium from bananas, avocados and…

However, like any poor graduate student, I did not have the funds to eat the healthiest, but I always tried. Keeping up with exercising was not the issue, but eating enough and healthy has become harder. With that being said, I was not surprised with my food journal. On my first journal entry, it revealed that I was not eating enough carbs, fat, protein, sodium, sugar, thus a low-calorie intake. Again, not a lot of funds. During my second day, I had too much sodium and fat intake, but still had 205 calories left. On the weekends, I love eating eggs and turkey bacon whether it is for breakfast or dinner, because it is cheap and easy to make. For my third journal entry, I had a high fat and protein intake, but I knew that was expected because I had 2 bowls of Korean Beef and Turnip soup for dinner (for some reason, I was super hungry – it may be due to studying too much?). Anyways, my nutrition diet journal is of no surprise to me. I knew I either ate too little or did not have the most balanced diet. However, I continue to keep up with exercising, which has become my new outlet. I know I still need to find that right balance, but I am hoping that once I graduate and I have a steady paycheck it will make it easier to afford a healthier diet!…

In protein the acceptable ranges is 10-35% and my average was 14%. C. My percentages of calories from protein, and fat were not found to fall under the Dietary Guidelines presented in my report. It stated that I should be consuming about 46. g of protein, though I was shown to consume about 28 g; in terms of fat, the suggestion was 42-73 g, though my actual intake was around 11 g. However, my carbohydrate intake was within range; the suggested intake was 213-308 g, and my actual intake was 232 g. In addition, my intake of saturated fat was 8%, falling under the recommended rage of 10% or under. In order to consume a more appropriate amount of fat and protein, I could try and substitute one or two snacks consisting of fruit with trail mix, or I could add some peanut butter to them. It would also help to incorporate some fish to either my lunch or dinner. This would be…
