Schulich Leader Research Paper
Before I describe why I feel I would make a great Schulich Leader, I must define what being a Schulich Leader means to me. A Schulich Leader is someone who has a passion or a goal they wish to achieve and instead of prioritizing the ‘final answer’, they see the importance in the journey that leads them towards achieving that goal. They do not rely on their own strength to achieve their goals, but rather, they share their visions with others and embrace the value of teamwork. A Schulich Leader is confident in their abilities, reflective of their mistakes, and committed to their challenge.
Through my past experiences–my academic successes, my participation in extracurricular activities, and my volunteer work in the community–I have either developed or displayed qualities of a Schulich Leader. I establish goals with a determined mindset and I seek innovative solutions to the challenges I am faced with. More importantly, I am a Schulich Leader because I am a team player. I connect, motivate and share my strengths with others so that the team accomplishes its goal as a unit.
My academic excellence throughout high school is evidence of my qualities as a Schulich Leader. In Grade 11, I was

In my role as the school’s Student Music Head this year, I have become an effective communicator through acting as a liaison between the faculty and students. Moreover, my mentorship position with the Each One Teach One Program has taught me how to be a role model in everything I do–in skating with my buddy, talking about hobbies and even writing letters–I lead by influence. I also am a leader in my community through my role as a volunteer youth counselor for children’s day camps. My position as a counselor drives me to set the goal of being a role model for younger students; a goal I achieve by having an open mind, exhibiting both honesty and humility, and offering

Prior to actually stepping foot into the classroom, I was not prepared to deal with the kinds of real problems that many of my students were facing. Problems such as abuse, neglect, hunger, out-all-night mothers, and jailed fathers were and still are common for many of them. When I found that many of these children performed below expectations in their academic classes, I eagerly began to try to find ways to assist. As a music educator, I began teaching and composing songs and chants to help motivate students to do their best and make big dreams, regardless of social issues that affect them. I began to collaborate with their home room teachers to incorporate the areas that needed reinforcement into my…

I am passionate about being a leader because I see leadership as the product of responsibility and experience. As a former student leader at high school, I believe the meaning of campus leadership is to provide high quality services for the students and the parents. Also, leaders need to exchange ideas from each other, so they can make the community a better place for students to live and study. I am always seeking for opportunities to help people and enrich my experience, and I believe I will make great contributions as a leader on MICA campus.…

From there, I hope to study to be accepted into medical school and specialize in pediatrics. When preparing for medical school, the advice one hears are to become a well-rounded student. Through my DECA experiences I have been able to develop leadership skills that will help me thrive in my future. Over the three years I have been involved, I have stepped out my comfort zone and made a difference in my local DECA chapter, community, and my future. Now taking the responsibility of being a DECA officer, as the chapter president, has allowed me to continue to grow and develop my leadership, communication, and social skills. Working with the Milan DECA Chapter members has proven how difficult and enjoyable being a leader is. At times leading so many events can be stressful; however, the completion of the events pushes me further. In order to reach the goal of becoming ‘well-rounded’, I used DECA skills to organize my time to join other extracurriculars within my community. Along with DECA, I participate in 4-H which is a non-profit organization in counties all across the nation that prepares youth to make a positive impact on their communities. Furthermore, I lead my 4-H club in a Relay For Life team through the American Cancer Society. Additionally, I am a dedicated musician, drum major, and the first Milan High School Flute Choir Director. I am an active participant in the peer education program at Milan High School. I am so thankful for the opportunities to be a leader within my class, school, community, county, and…

A leader is a person who has a vision (Owen, 2002). A leader has drive and is committed to achieving their goals and vision. Leaders focus their attention on problems that need to be fixed, and will tackle the situation at hand. Leaders are determined, motivated, careful planners and effective communicators. Leaders are positive and do not waste time and effort with negativity. Effective communication is more than just being able to speak and write. An effective leader's communication encourages people to work toward their goals. A leader is motivated and motivates everyone to contribute to the organization (Owen, 2002). All of these attributes are what I considered when choosing a Leader to interview. I have chosen to interview G.O. who currently works as a Director of Nursing, and has an extensive background in management. Leadership is one of the most important traits to have not only in school but outside too. In school, one can take up the position of being a leader by tutoring classmates. By helping a peer understand a topic they were confused about, a feeling of accomplishment and happiness comes along. One can also be a leader by being a part of a club and helping the club officers and other members reach their club goals. For example, I am part of the Environmental Club and I have been an active member since freshmen year. I have participated in many of the events put together by this club and have helped them in planning these events to ensure things run smoothly. At the moment, I am working with two friends on a marketing project for the tower gardens in school. If I am accepted into the National Honors Society, I will be able to gain more experience in being a leader and I will then be able to help the Environmental Club more in fulfilling more club goals. If accepted, I plan to take everything I learn from being a part of this society and apply it to my life.…
