Schulchlach Research Paper
Some people are naturally born as leaders whereas others take a long and treacherous journey through life and become a star leader. I certainly wasn’t born into this world as a leader and nor do I consider myself a picture perfect leader at this point by any means. This does not stop me from knowing that I can become a Schulich leader and better the current generation and future ones to come. What is a Schulich leader exactly? Could it be the person that solves the calculus question the fastest or perhaps it’s the person leading everyone in a volunteer group towards a unified goal. A well balanced mixture of attributes like so is what I believe it takes to be a Schulich leader. As a young child I was always the shy one that people could barely hear and I was more than content with that. Growing up, I began taking more self-guidance and began assisting those leading because I became frustrated that I couldn’t make a difference or add any input into the decisions …show more content…
In our age of the internet of things, we are so connected with the world that we can have numerous people from multiple countries working on a single project. Having a being exposed to two very different cultures, I can appreciate those from different cultural backgrounds and see the high value in working in a multicultural setting. How one culture may tackle a problem another culture may troubleshoot from a different angle and this difference is both valuable and brings a new aspect in a leadership role. With all perspectives considered, the way in which one is qualified to be a Schulich leader. I do know I have some of the qualities in which a Schulich leader should possess, I believe a Schulich leader is someone with deep ambitions to better the world for science, technology, engineering and math. A person that will take the next step and tread into the uncharted lands of science. I for one know that I am capable of taking that

When one thinks of a leader, what type of person do we think of? Is that individual a hero that we see on television, a cartoon character, a family member, or is that person a public servant? Regardless of occupation and title, a leader is a person who inspires others and they know how to motivate people. “When they arrive, you see something about them that stands out. The inner strength of their leadership ability emerges”. (Gonzalez, 2007, February 1). Leaders are individuals in your area of work who are focused on the tasks at hand and they have a clear and concise vision on what their respective organizations are set out to do.…

Before I describe why I feel I would make a great Schulich Leader, I must define what being a Schulich Leader means to me. A Schulich Leader is someone who has a passion or a goal they wish to achieve and instead of prioritizing the ‘final answer’, they see the importance in the journey that leads them towards achieving that goal. They do not rely on their own strength to achieve their goals, but rather, they share their visions with others and embrace the value of teamwork. A Schulich Leader is confident in their abilities, reflective of their mistakes, and committed to their challenge.…

Everyone cannot be a leader but can be good followers for something, in a positive way. They cannot be leaders because they lack the skills to be a good leader. No one is born a leader, but develop into a leader. A leader and followers needs training. They also need positive learning experiences to develop leadership skills. They need skills of observation, learning, analysis, and communication. In order for a follower to be a leader it must be desired. Both must be taught to improve their power of observation, and to build personal confidence. A follower must also develop the traits that needed to be a leader. Leadership to me means being competent, hardworking and compassionate, but alongside this are some extra work of a leader and that is to be able to know when there is problem, how to identify the problem and how to solve the problem (keep in mind that to solve a problem has to be permanent, and not a temporary solution).…

A leader is a person who represents the whole class and motivate them. I did not believe I was a leader. During my freshman and sophomore year of high school, I was a quiet spoken individual who listens to what others have to say. It was not that I did not have anything to say, but it was the fear of saying something wrong and others disregarding what I had to say. I did several presentations in high school that made speaking in front of people more easier. However, I was still the timid person who wanted desperately to break my shell but did not know how. A shocking moment had occurred when I had became secretary of Zonta Club. It was junior year and I was surprised to have been part of the leadership team. I was able to discuss my ideas and to speak with the members at ease. It was my breaking point. I was given a privilege to be part of something that made a change. I was not just the soft spoken person, but I was a leader…

A good leader is, in my perception, a person who, like Jim Collins is shy and strong at the same time, which does live, as also Bernabè did, for the achievement of the company o the society he is operating for and not for the personal achievement. He is working for the general benefit, and not for the benefit of himself or just to achieve more money.…

The age-old question continues to raise its ugly head: Are leaders born to lead, or are they made? Does Leadership DNA exist? We often point to one person or the other and say, “Now, he’s a leader,” without giving a lot of thought to how this person became a leader in the first place. Sometimes it is easy to simply conclude that some of us have the leadership gene and some of us do not. Those who do get to lead, while those who do not are forever assigned to the sidelines while leaders have all the fun, make all the decisions, and cover themselves in glory. This comes as rather unsettling news for those of us who fear we may get the opportunity to lead. What hope do we have that we can ever aspire to lead people, teams, companies, organizations, even our children?…

Referencing from McLuhan’s “Global Village”, the workforce that need to be led are culturally diverse. A Chinese-American manager would be expected to lead a team of an Irish accountant, Indian technician, and African American marketers in an Indonesian office. What that brings is a culturally diverse workforce that is needed to be sensitively considered. Leaders need to understand that the differences goes beyond the physical appearance, different cultures have different customs, conventions on doing things, and even core values that they believe in. To be able to create a harmonized working community, both leaders and co-workers need to respect each other’s culture. Ultimately a leader must be able not only to understand the cultural difference, but also able to synergize the difference into creating an effective work team.…

The question was asked in our class discussion this week, “Are leaders born or made?” This is one of the most often asked questions about leadership. People have varying opinions on this subject. My opinion is that leaders are made. To lead people effectively is a very complex undertaking. No one is born with the necessary tools to be a good leader. I choose to believe that leaders are made, not born, because I want to believe that I can develop into a good leader even though I was not born with certain traits. Our lecture last night focused on some traits normally associated with good leaders: energy, stress management, self-confidence, tenaciousness, social intelligence, and integrity. Some of these traits can be used to describe me but there are a few in which I need further development.…
