School Uniform Debate
School uniforms
Good:
Save money-- don’t need to buy many casual clothes for school days. Parents only need to buy school uniforms for their children.
(School uniforms can save parents a lot of money as they then only need to buy their children casual clothes to wear on the weekends. Otherwise, parents need to constantly replenish their child's wardrobe with the latest fashions, which can be very expensive. They would need to provide clothes for 5 days of every week plus weekends, sports and club activities. Uniforms are a special money saver during the growing years, when students outgrow their clothes every few months.)

Promote equality- poor students may feel themselves inferior, when other students wear expensive clothes to school.
(Distinctions made on the basis of economic status are reduced. With everyone dressed similar, students will judge others based on character instead of the clothes they wear.)

Protect students- When students are bullied or injure, passerby can know which school the students from and help them contact the school as soon as possible. (peer pressure)

Students can’t choose clothes that they want to wear to school. Everyone wears the same uniforms and can’t outstand personalities.

If their children are missing, how can parents describe their children to policemen, firemen or other people?

One of the reasons that school uniforms should not be allowed in schools because they are not cost effective. One reason why they are not cost effective is because some families cannot afford multiple uniforms, plus the clothes that students wear outside of school (Pakhare 1). Unlike the students who can afford three, four, or five uniforms, the poorer students’ one uniform will look worn out and used by mid-semester compared to everyone else (Stainburn 1). It will be easier to pick out the kids who cannot afford much. The social boundaries that uniforms were trying to get rid of will still occur with or without them (Cruz 47). School uniforms have many disadvantages for children and families. From the time we are old enough to communicate, everyone tells us to express ourselves and be ourselves. How can we do that if we are required to wear uniforms to school? Chanel Iman once said, “[D]on’t be afraid to express yourself through fashion.” With school uniforms, kids can’t express themselves except through words and actions. Some students are shy and use their fashion sense to make friends. Also, school uniforms can be costly. Many parents send their children to school in hand-me-downs from older siblings. With uniforms, they need to buy several different uniforms for the 5-day week and as their children grow. Also…

School uniforms have been around just as long as schools themselves, and they play a much bigger role in education than most people think. Uniforms have been proven to promote learning and help kids stay focused in school. Many people believe putting on a uniform resembles a parent putting on a suit, and getting ready for work. It makes the students take a more serious interest in the work they are doing at school. Also, it has been proven that wearing uniforms provides less of a distraction than fashionable clothes create. With uniforms, there is absolutely no controversy over who has the newest, coolest clothes in school.…
