School Lunchs

When it comes to school lunches, many parents do not see how bad they can truly be. When enrolling your child or children into a school, the lunches are not the first thing that you look at. With the obesity rate in america getting the highest it has ever been, the lunches at the schools that our children go to, are very important and need to be healthy and nutritious for the younger generation. According to the CDC, childhood obesity has more than doubled in 2013. Also, Readers Digest says that a recent study has shown that students that eat school lunches regularly, has a 29% more chance to to be obese than students that packed their lunches from home . Looking at these facts, it shows that either every kid packs their lunch for school, or they make the lunches healthier. There are schools that do serve healthier lunches. They say that 94 percent of schools in the united states are expected to meet the standards of the school lunches from the federal nutrition by the end of last years academic course. By the end of March of 2013, more than 70 percent of the schools reported that they have met the new food standards. In an article, I read that one third of the schools are saying that they could not reach the expected standards because they didn’t have to right kitchen equipment to serve healthier foods. and another quarter say that they will have difficulties because of plumbing and electrical capacity. After reading this article, I started thinking a lot deeper into what has to happen to the kitchen in order for them to start serving healthier food. When schools switch their foods, it would need more room because healthier food is always fresh and schools usually have bags of frozen food to serve to the students, which isn’t healthy at all but it also does not take as much room as storing all the fresh food. It would also cost the schools a lot more. They would not be able to store leftovers and use them the next day. They would have to prepare...
