When freshman change schools, does it impact their identity? The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie is about an young kid named Junior goes through a dramatic change of schools and friends but manages to make it work. “School Days of an Indian Girl” by Zitkala-Sa is about a Indian girl who is forced into a boarding school and has to the teacher they to make her forget about her culture. In The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part Time Indian Junior’s identity has changed by being brave by playing in the basketball game, then to making friends at Reardan High School and being more of a forgiving person to Rowdy. Rowdy came over to Junior’s house asking for forgiveness and then “Rowdy and I played one-one for hours” (Alexie 230). Even though rowdy and junior had mixed feeling about each other as and had demoralized their friendship, they made up and became friends again, while playing their favorite sport together. Zitkala-Sa dreamed of being free and not held back by anything she wanted to be “Under a sky of rosy apples we dreamt of roaming as freely and happily as we had chased the cloud shadows on the Dakota plains.” (1). Zitkala-Sa was dreaming about her future, and not including retaliating on the who tried to make her forget her heritage and culture. They are both talking about forgiveness and not retaliating. Junior is forgiving rowdy for being mean and playing basketball with him. And Zitkala-Sa was dreaming of living a happy life and hoping the world had come to peace. It all comes down to forgiving the people or person that emotional hurtful or was mean.
