Western The College of Dental Medicine at Western University of Health Sciences offers an opportunity to learn skills necessary to become a dentist on new state-of-the-art equipment and perhaps play a part in the formation and growth of this new school. The diverse educational methodologies offered at this University, as well as the emphasis on clinical experience, will ensure that I gain the required knowledge and skills to become a proficient dentist. As an outdoorsman, I cannot think of a better place to be inspired and motivated during my years in dental school than Southern California.
I believe that my experience in leadership positions, volunteering, and shadowing, demonstrate my commitment to hard work, diversity, and helping of those in need. These characteristics indicate why I am a good candidate for, and will be a excellent representative of Western University. I have vivid memories of getting out of bed at the crack of dawn to serve food to the homeless at a local soup kitchen, or to clean up a park after a storm. Although I was unhappy upon waking, I never regretted my decision once I arrived and saw the faces of those being helped. Throughout high school I worked extensively with the Challenger Program, where I coached various sports with mentally and physically handicapped athletes. For a few hours every Sunday, I had the opportunity to help teach these amazing children. After witnessing their laughter and joy, I couldn't help but embrace their compassion, trustworthiness, and eagerness to learn. These are all qualities I look forward to bringing to my dental school and eventually my dental practice. I have been able to fine-tune my interpersonal skills from my experience working in a

The Nashville Veterans Affairs (VA) dental clinic was a beneficial learning experience because it was a unique population. The VA is committed to improving the health of Veterans through a comprehensive and high quality system, which focuses on each patient's special needs. This mission was important because each patient I saw was completely different with special needs, but they were all similar in a few behavioral ways. My rotation at the VA clinic was helpful because each patient I saw had different medical conditions. It was interesting to learn that all of the VA records were accessible to all of a patient’s providers in the hospital. This seemed important and helpful in my opinion because everything about that patient’s medical treatments…
