Being a senior in highschool is quite stressful when you have to worry about College Application, Scholarships, Testing, and trying to overcome senioritis. Obviously, this time of year i have overcome those challenges and I would like to officially announce that I am committed to Florida International University. Fast forward a couple months after I found out that I’ve been admitted I’ve been anxious about meeting new people before the Fall term, the campus, and in general how do I survive in college? Throughout my school years, I have always wanted to help in the community and make an impact to others therefore when entering my freshman year, I joined many different clubs but one stood out to me which was Key Club assists students in carrying out its mission to serve the children of the world. In the club, we do many acts of service in their communities, such as cleaning up parks, collecting clothing and organizing food drives. We also learn leadership skills by running meetings, planning projects and more so. It provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership. One thing that impacted me from doing community work was the Eliminate Project which is a campaign to raise $110 million to eliminate…

I am beyond interested in having a career as a biomedical engineer, more specifically dealing with its rehabilitation aspects. It would be an honor to have a career involving a connection to the Wounded Warrior Project. In fact, biomedical engineering was the inspiration for my senior project, the product for which I designed and 3D printed a prosthetic leg. Granted, it was a simple design, but that is why I want to study it at WSU. I want to advance my skills to prepare myself for this field. The Wounded Warrior Project provides great inspiration for me, and being able to do what they do is a dream of…

For this essay, I chose as my influence the classic American novel, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Many people know The Great Gatsby as a book they were forced to read in high school. If truth be told, I count myself among that group. I believed, like many of my fellow classmates, that our seemingly fruitless efforts at dissecting the meaning of this book could have been better utilized toward more “important” things. However, once I started college last year, I developed a renewed interest in this uniquely “American” tale. I suspect my interest stems from the fascination I have always had with the “roaring twenties” or “jazz age” as Fitzgerald himself described this decadent period of living in our nation’s history. Something about this era seemed to me so glamorous yet vaguely familiar to our current standard of living in America.…

“The future belongs to the discontented.” I agree with this quote because the future definitely does belong to the discontented. In my opinion, the discontented represents everyone. No one can truly ever stay content for long without wanting to better their current situation. Even the richest man in America, Bill Gates, still feels the need to change the future – his and the world’s. I think it is great that the future belongs to those who are dissatisfied, and I believe that it does because of many reasons such as human nature and the American Dream.…

The Black Panther Party for Self-Defense was founded in October 1966, in Oakland, California by Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale. Armed with sincerity, the words of revolutionaries such as Mao Tse-Tung and Malcolm X, law books, and rifles, the Black Panther Party fed the hungry, protected the weak from racist police, and presented a Ten Point Platform and Program of Black political and social activism. Its "survival programs"-such as food giveaways, free health clinics and free breakfast programs for children-were popular fixtures in Black neighborhoods in the early 1970s, but for the white power structure and the vast majority of the white public, the Panthers represented only anti-government militancy; a view which engendered the wrath of the police and FBI and led to the murder of several Party members by law enforcement.…

Industrial Engineering has always been an interesting career for me. My step father is an industrial engineer. I have been to his work and watched him and thought it was intriguing, so I decided it is the career I want to pursue. He has shown me a lot of different things he does at work. Designing things using autocad is what he does a lot. I have taken autocad classes in high school and thought they were easy, I understood what I was doing, and thought it was interesting.…

Everyone knows the intersection on Hoover and Jefferson. It’s where students and faculty and neighbors of the community for a moment in time all come together. That intersection represents not only ones entrance and exit from the “USC bubble,” but provides a moment of realization that there is life beyond the classrooms, the books, and even the 2 mile “Fruber” radius around USC. See USC, provides the opportunity for one to reach their goals, to take their dreams and make them a reality. However, sometimes it takes a whole community and a 30 second traffic light to get you where you need to go.…

To my knowledge, there is only one Landon Follett Van Wagoner in the world, but what's in a name? I suppose that my upbringing isn't far off the norm for a BYU student. I grew up in Bountiful Utah and was blessed to be raised in a family that is active in the church, where my siblings and I learned the foundational lessons of faith. I am presently serving a mission in Melbourne Australia, and I will be attending Brigham Young University this fall.…

From what I learned in my resiliency in high school up to this point is that at Florida State University, I will have to be tougher than I have ever been, because I will be on my own, no one will be there to tell me to do my assignments, to get to class on time, I am doing it for me and I’ll need to be able to pace myself. There will be times when I will feel overwhelmed with the classes I am taking while attending FS. I may also be distracted by everything else going on campus, such as parties, tailgates and other distractions that may stray me from my studies, But I will have to remain on task and remember what I’m at FSU for, to be a great scholar and earn my degree in computer sciences.…

When I was sixteen, I attended to a pre-college summer program for three weeks. When I arrived, I had a dorm room, a roommate, and seventy-nine strangers to become acquainted with. We had all come for the same general reasons – we wanted to learn more, experience more, and become at least slightly prepared for what college might be like. We attended classes and learned about new topics, but…
