The House I Live In by Eugene Jarecki is a documentary film about the war on drugs in the United States. It raises many contemporary intercultural concerns about the issue, but first it would be important to explain what cultural groups it highlights. We would first think about diving the war on drugs between drug users and law enforcement, but after watching this movie we can tell that there is a real intercultural issue amongst drug users and prisoners incarcerated for drugs. Indeed, we learn in the movie and its website that “even though White and Black people use drugs at approximately equal rates, Black people are 10.1 times more likely to be sent to prison for drug offenses. Today, Black Americans represent 56% of those incarcerated for drug crimes, even though they comprise only 13% of the U.S. Population”.…

On the first of April my mom, dad, and I attempt to do April Fools pranks on each other. It usually seems that my dad and I always have the best pranks. Like a couple years back I put orange juice in my dad’s shampoo bottle, and he started washing his hair with it! Or the one time my dad put a rubber band around the sink sprayer and pointed upward where someone would stand. He then asked my mom to wet a wash rag, but when she turned the sink on it sprayed her in the face. That personally was one of my favorites because he got it on video to. Last year my mom turned the tables on my dad and I. My dad and I both forgot that it was April Fools and my mom brought us down some delicious ice cream. At least that's what we thought. Immediately my…

Parents have always struggled with ways to appropriately discipline their children, especially in modern culture. Several years ago there would have been no question about acceptable forms of punishment. Today people can not parent their children the way they want to. There are radical groups out there that are dictating the way we care for them, and this is not right. When did society become so manipulative over our parental duties? Even in today’s society, a good old-fashioned spanking is still a beneficial form of punishment.…

A movement has made its way across the country, it is a concerted effort to reduce the fear and anxiety that our companion animals as well as many of their human caretakers have upon entering a veterinary hospital setting. The ideology is referred to as a “fear free practice”. In my humble opinion I believe this should have been adopted a long time ago and seems, simply put, a “No Brainer”. The principles of a “Fear Free” animal hospital was first introduced to the field by world renowned veterinarian and most importantly animal behaviorist and trainer, the late Dr. Sophia Yin. In addition, to Dr. Yin’s work the movement was also fueled by the work of Dr. Karen Overall. The two coupled with many others who have picked up the torch of Dr. Yin’s…

It is believed that the settlement was founded around the 6th century by Focko, a Bavarian nobleman. The existence of the village was documented for the first time in 1070 and historical records show that some twenty years later the lord was Adalpertus de Fucingin. The spelling of the name has evolved over the years; it is first recorded in historical sources with the spelling as Vucchingen in 1070, Fukching in 1303,[5] Fugkhing in 1532, and in the modern spelling Fucking in the 18th century,[6] which is pronounced with the vowel oo as in book.[2] The ending -ing is an old Germanic suffix indicating the people belonging to the root word to which it is attached, such as in the English word earthling; thus Fucking means "(place of) Focko’s people."[7]…

A recent trend in drug seeking behavior has led many physicians to stop the practice of prescribing painkillers, stirring a debate on whether physicians have an ethical responsibility to treat pain even though some patients are abusing the drugs prescribed. Some argue that not prescribing painkillers is up to the physicians because it is their practice at stake. The problem with this line of thinking is that it draws an invisible line in the sand. Physicians are supposed to treat patients, not pick and choose because of potential legal liabilities, and they take an oath stating just that. Therefore, it is unethical and unacceptable for physicians to refuse…
