Scandium Research Paper
Scandium is a soft, silvery-white metal. With a cost of $270 per gram, it is too expensive for widespread use but alloys of scandium and aluminum are used in many different types of athletic equipment such as baseball bats, bicycle frames, and lacrosse sticks. Scandium is a fairly abundant element. However, it is not found concentrated, it is rather spread out and is therefore difficult to isolate. Scandium is classified as a rare earth element, which doesn’t mean that it is necessarily ‘rare’ but it is difficult to extract from the earth and separate from other

Throughout the course of the last nine weeks, my eyes have been opened to an entirely new world full of nutritional and exercising information. It is rough being a thirty-three year old husband and father, with an eye on trying to remain on this planet for as long as humanly possible. As parents, we all have goals we want to achieve. The usual suspects include seeing your children graduate high school and then college, walking your daughter down the aisle of her wedding, and being able to retire and continue to live a healthy and happy life. What I have come to realize through this nutritional and exercising information is that in order to accomplish this goal, there are certain aspects of my life that I need to change. I am not a particularly healthy eater. I do not exercise regularly. I mostly do what I can with the time I have available. I suspect this problem plagues many men across this country and around the world. In my state, the obesity rate is close to 30% and it continues to trend upward (Centers for Disease Control, 2011). Without a drastic change in lifestyle, I am simply adding to the statistics. The knowledge I have gained in this course has led me to believe that this is simply unacceptable. Something has to change, and I have a plan to make that happen.…

Another feature of electricity at work 1989 is that all device should go through inspection regularly by a qualified electrician, to look for broken sockets, lose wires and crushed cables, this is to prevent harm to user. Overall, Smilodon was more robustly built than any extant cat, with particularly well-developed forelimbs and exceptionally long upper canines. Its jaw had a bigger gape than that of modern cats and its upper canines were slender and fragile, being adapted for precision killing. S. gracilis was the smallest species at 55 to 100 kg (120 to 220 lb) in weight. S. fatalis had a weight of 160 to 280 kg (350 to 620 lb) and height of 100 cm (39 in). Both of these species are mainly known from North America, but remains from South America have also been attributed to them. S. populator from South America is perhaps the largest known felid at 220 to 400 kg (490 to 880 lb) in weight and 120 cm (47 in) in height. The coat pattern of Smilodon is unknown, but it has been artistically restored with plain or spotted patterns.…

During the early 1900s, newly discovered radium was quite popular. People were awed by its mysterious properties rather than it lethal affects. Many uses were found for its luminescence when mixed with a phosphor. Initially, radium was widespread among everyday necessities such as toothpaste, hair tonic, ointments, elixir etc. Furthermore, radium was also one of the first cancer treatments; it was used as a radiation source. Limited quantities were implanted in tumors to eliminate cancerous cells; ironically, one of the reason radium was, for the most part, discontinued, was because it turned out to be a cancer carcinogen itself. Many people drank radium in hopes to…

Based off of this week’s reading assignment you can see that an interesting story is told of Sargon’s life and how we came to become a ruler. Sargon did not seem to know his father, only his mother. Just from reading the text, we cannot tell exactly why his mother had to stay low key about her pregnancy and pass him along the river. His mother made sure he was safe, “She placed me in a basket of reeds, she cast me upon the rivers which did not overflow me”, he travels through safely where we is found by Akki, a gardner. Sargon is then appointed as a gardener by Akki and is blessed by the goddess Ishtar who helps him become king and ruler for four years. Sargon wishes the best for the future ruler, hoping he will “ascend the upper mountains, break through the lower mountains, and to govern the black-headed peoples, just as he did.…

Alcoholism claims three hundred lives per day in the United States alone. Finding a cure could save more than one-hundred thousand people per year Alcoholism is a broad term for problems with alcohol and is generally used to mean compulsive and uncontrolled consumption of alcoholic beverages, usually to the detriment of the drinker’s health, personal relationships, and social standing. Alcoholism is medically considered a disease, specifically a neurological disorder, sometimes medically called “alcohol abuse” or “alcohol dependence.” To date, there are some standardized treatments that work for alcoholics, but not for others, and a cure is not medically recognized (Ameisen, 2009). Many cures have been proposed over the years; this research centers on a brilliant cardiologist, Dr. Oliver Ameisen, who developed a profound addiction to alcohol, and will show controlled studies using Baclofen to reduce cravings for alcohol. Dr. Ameisen, an alcoholic himself, did the only thing that he could; he took his treatment into his own hands.…

The mythology about rubies is vast and it varies. Some cultures associate it with the Zodiac sign of Capricorn (goat) and in other cultures, Taurus (bull). Most cultures consider the ruby as the birthstone for July. However, throughout the ages it has been associated with nearly every other month. Ruby's Day is Tuesday, it's season Summer, and it's apostle St. Matthew. Rubies are a traditional gift for 40th wedding anniversaries. In myth and magic, at the time of the Borgias (15-16th century), rubies were thought to counteract poison- and were therefore in high demand! In the Renaissance Era, rubies were associated with charity. Rubies also brought the wearer serenity and protection against injury. Some believed that rubies could ward off…
