Publisher's Note
"SATHYA SAI SPEAKS" Series is, according to late Prof. N. Kasturi, the original translator and compiler, "a fragrant boquet of flowers that never fade or falter". These discourses were delivered by Swaami out of profound compassion towards seekers of Truth during the last few decades. The need for revised and enlarged editions of the Series was strongly felt and expressed by devotees, especially by foreigners. An attempt has therefore been made in these volumes to meet their needs. The discourses have been presented year-wise so that there is no overlapping of the discourses delivered in a year, in more than one volume pertaining to the same calendar year. This rearrangement has resulted in an increase in the number of volumes, from the previous twelve to the present fifteen volumes, covering the years 1953 to 1982. Further new volumes will also be added in due course, to cover the discourses delivered after 1982. The retention of Sanskrit words on page after page, in the previous volumes, without their English equivalents in most

    Three Paths in Hinduism

There are three paths in Hinduism - the path of knowledge, the path of devotion and the path of action. The topic to be discussed in this paper is the path of devotion, or 'bhakti' in Sanskrit. Devotion is defined as, "love, loyalty, or enthusiasm for a person, activity, or cause" (Google Definitions). In the case of any religion, specifically Hinduism, this devotion is towards a God or number of gods and realizing that they are not just there to be worshipped but will also protect you and help you when you need them, creating a more personal relationship. I chose this topic because I think it is important, regardless of what religion you are, to have an utmost devotion toward whatever God or deity you are worshipping. God is the center of most religions, and without a devotion and love towards God we cannot bear the fruits of the religion, which are the qualities which that God possesses. Bhakti is a predominate theme seen in Hinduism (mostly after the Vedic times) especially in the Epics (Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, etc.). We will discuss the path of devotion and how it is defined, practiced and brought out in Hinduism.…

Another unprolific belief failing to mitigate the irreconcilable adversities protruding at every instance in his life heaves him into a constant cycle. This cyclical nature also highlights the subtle love and hate duo present not only in the child people but also enlightenment. This recurring dynamic embodies another one of life’s hidden ironies to which he bestows himself gratuitous. With the subtle implication that emotions are of no place in the journey to enlightenment reiterated in both Brahmin life and Samana life who believe the holy books of teaching will reveal the solution and the riddance of ego elevates you into this higher form, respectively, Siddhartha finds the solution through this shunned method of feeling. “And now this is a teaching you will laugh at: Love, O Govinda, seems paramount to me.”…
