Santa Claus
That big fat jolly man, in the red suit with the long white beard, the one with 9 reindeer and a magical sleigh, that man who spends all year at the North Pole, getting his clever elves to make our presents. The personification of the spirit of Christmas usually represented as a jolly fat old man with a white beard and a red suit, who brings gifts to good children on Christmas Eve. Yes santa!
Santa is the person who has most greatly affected my life. Santa Claus, also known as Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas and simply "Santa", is a figure with legendary, mythical, historical and folkloric origins who, in many western cultures, is said to bring gifts to the homes of the good children during the late evening and overnight hours of Christmas Eve, December 24. Santa Claus is generally depicted as a portly, joyous, white-bearded man—sometimes with spectacles—wearing a red coat with white collar and cuffs, white-cuffed red trousers, and black leather belt and boots. This image has been maintained and reinforced through song, radio, television, children's books and films.
Folklore may have turned Santa Claus into a toy distributor who mans a sleigh led by nine flying reindeer, but he is actually based, on a real person. Born around the year 270, St. Nicholas was the Bishop of Myra, a town in what is now Turkey. He earned a reputation as an anonymous gift giver, by paying the dowries of impoverished girls and handing out treats and coins to children — often leaving them in their shoes, set out at night for that very purpose. Since his death, Nicholas has been canonized as the patron saint of children.
According to a tradition which can be traced to the 1820s, Santa Claus lives at the North Pole, with a large number of magical elves, and nine flying reindeer. Santa Claus has been believed to make a list of children throughout the world, categorizing them according to their behaviour and to deliver presents, including toys, and candy to all of the well-behaved

Santa is a man that represents the Spirit of Christmas. Kris Kringle believed himself to be Santa Claus, and the courts even ruled he is not crazy. It really comes down to perception. I can deeply believe I am an angel and even convince others I am an angel. Does that mean I am crazy or are we not agreed on what that really means? Kris Kringle is Santa Claus, but we have to decide what that means. Does he have reindeer that fly and pull a sleigh with all the children of the world’s presents? Does he have time to go to every obedient child's house and fit through the chimney? Does he have magic? Is he all knowing? Of course not, but he is still Santa Claus. For one thing, Kris Kringle didn’t disagree when the parents of the children flat out said they needed to go and buy their children the gift Santa just said they would receive. For example, the lawyer putting Santa on trial even admitted that he was the one who purchased the gifts for his son.…

Many of Mr. Moore’s friends asked for copies of his poem and in 1823, one of these friends published the poem anonymously in the Troy, New York Sentinel.…

Ebenezer Scrooge, the miser amongst Christmas. Dickens creation of whom encapsulates everything that detests Christian Christmas values of ‘charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence’ At the beginning of Charles Dickens a Christmas Carol – Scrooge, acts as the chief protagonist within the novella in which he is initially depicted as a ‘squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous old sinner’, as ‘self-contained, and as solitary as an oyster’. At this stage, it appears as if this man is incapable of relationships – however, through the threat of an afterlife of suffering, a spiritual journey guided by The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present and of Christmas future, combined with a realisation of the importance of the relationships he had so long disregarded Scrooge is able to lose his capitalist lifestyle in exchange for a life lived in light of his tri-temporal, gothic, experience that helped him realise there is more to life then ‘weighing everything by gain’…

A Christmas Carol also reflect symbolism. The main character, Scrooge, whose name comes from the words "screw" and "gouge", means hard-hearted. Marley, Scrooge's deceased business partner, represents the conscience of mankind. The three ghosts who visit Scrooge on Christmas Eve stand for memory, charity and the fear of death. By effectively blending symbolism into his characters and various objects within the novel, Dickens reminds his readers of the importance of taking notice of those around them.…
