Dear Sir/Madam,

I am currently in the final year of an Honours degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, specialising in Naval Architecture, and I am interested in Naval
Architecture position advertised on last Friday on the Totaljobs website.
I have studied a range of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering subjects including in-depth modules in designing the complete hull structure according to specification of test data, application of the international standard and law, and analysing on-board system operation which have given me a sound knowledge of marine design, and predict the stability and safety of ships, as well as their strength, speed, powering and propulsion requirements. Having studied operational system of Marine
Engineering at both Strathclyde UniKL MIMET, Malaysia, I have developed skills in evaluation of craft performance and designing in conformity with standards of safety.
My enthusiasm for the naval architecture was confirmed through my experience with a construction company, which gave me a unique insight into the challenging and high pressure role of a naval architecture. During my industrial training I was able to use the effective communication and strong interpersonal skills I have developed during my previous experience, particularly while Student
Representative.
I am fast learner and highly organised naval architecture and marine engineering, skills in communication and negotiation, and interest in the marine field. Working in Europe country is a further attraction for me, since it offers the possibility of polish my language skill and learn a new culture, both of which I likely enjoy.
My CV is enclosed for your consideration. Please contact me if you need further information. I shall look forward to the opportunity to discuss my application with you at an interview.

Yours sincerely

Every aspect of a ship was debated by shipwrights, the men whose job it was to both design and build ships, in order to create the quickest and most maneuverable ship possible. One very important aspect to maneuverability was the keel to beam ratio. The keel of a ship is the longest plank running along the center of the ship’s underside from front to back. The frame of the ship was built upon the keel. This plank was typically made of elm because of its durability when immersed in salt water for extensive periods. The beam of a ship is the width of the ship, from port to starboard at the widest point. A ship with a high keel to beam ratio was very long and although it would be able to house more guns along its broadside, it would also be less maneuverable. It was determined that the arguably “best” keel to beam ratio wavered between 2.5:1 and 3:1. Depth was a second factor important to a ship’s design. If a ship was deeper, then there was more material above water for gun placement. If ships were shallow, it would be difficult to build the triple-decker ships that were popular later in the 17th century. This is why the Dutch did not build very many triple-decker ships; the coast off the Netherlands is very shallow.…
