Same Sex Marriage
Gay marriage around the world has hit everyone in a tremendous way. Whether a good way or a bad way, just about everyone has something to say about it. Doesn’t matter whether you are gay, straight, old, or young, the publics’ opinion on whether it is right or wrong has influenced a lot of decisions lately. The most known public dispute about gay marriage and equal rights is Proposition 8. Proposition 8 was a California ballot and state constitutional amendment that was passed on the November 2008 state election. The ballot was officially titled: “Eliminates Rights of Same-Sex Couples to Marry Initiative Constitutional Amendment.” In California it was ruled that marriage can only be valid if it is between a man and a woman. Therefore, same-sex couples were prohibited from being about to be legal married couple. Eventually in 2010, a federal court ruled it unconstitutional but wasn’t officially confirmed until late July. There have been multiple court cases to get this to be legal since 2008 and victory was won. People should be able to do what they want when it comes to them wanting to marry someone. It is absolutely wrong to tell someone that they cannot form the ultimate union with another person because it is publicly frown upon. We are supposed to live in the land of the free, and yet, we are controlled by the government when it comes to doing something that does not harm another person whatsoever. This is not fair. People are able to judge another person and give them freedom after committing the ultimate crime, such as murder, but they are not allowed to form a union with someone that is of the same sex. America, sometimes sadly, doesn’t make sense. People cannot help whom they fall in love with or who they are attracted to. As a Christian, I understand the opposing side. The bible states that homosexuality is an abomination. Marriage is designated between a man and a woman, but as time evolves so does many things. As a part of my

    Gay marriage has been the cause of intense debate in the United States for years.
