Salt And Sugar Affects People's Diet
Throughout the years, Americans have been eating, all types of food. Fast food, home cooked meals, cookies, chips, etc. But do we actually take the time to look at the food labels and actually check how much salt and sugar there is in our food, or check to see how much salt and sugar we supposed to consume each day. According to the Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Agriculture state no more than 10% of the calories in someone’s diet should come from added sugar. The recommended diet for the average person should be about 2,000 calories. That’s only about 40 or 48 grams of sugar. Nearly all Americans, no matter the age eat way too much salt without looking at the labels. Our bodies can’t handle all the sugar and salt intake, so our body starts to fail and we can get diseases such as Kidney Stones, and diabetes. Many people who don’t change their eating habits die, at a younger age. Also, have to take excessive amounts of pills just to fight it because your immune system is failing due to the amount of salt and sugar in their body. …show more content…
Dieting, and monitoring your salt and sugar intake is the only way you can stop your body from getting these diseases. Sugar has many names on the food labels such, as corn syrup, dextrose, glucose, and molasses. Each of these sugars and lead up to you catch several diseases such as Diabetes, Heart Disease, Obesity. Sugar provides escess calories that are absorbed by your body, which can lead to you developing type 2 diabetes, according to a 2004 study in the “Journal of the American Medical Association.” The more you eat sugar the more you’re at risk for a poor lipid profile consisting of higher triglyceride levels, lower “good” high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and higher “bad” low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels, says lead study author Jean A.

    The Japanese first developed high fructose corn syrup. When they saw that it is more cost effective than other sugars, other companies started to use high fructose corn syrup in their products. High fructose corn syrup is a sugar made of fifty-five percent fructose and forty-five percent glucose. Studies have shown that increased consumption of HFCS is linked to liver scarring, not to mention the obesity epidemic in the United States.
