The restaurant is well known for its proximity to the MD waterfront – including a dock that directly overlooks the Chesapeake Bay– as well as crab dinners and live entertainment. The restaurant has free access to the docks at the local marina which is owned by the current landlord. You will find that the community of "SUPers" is the friendliest, most enthusiastic, and supportive community you can ever come across. From one stand up paddler to another that have never met, there is an instant connection. No rivalry or exclusiveness like among surfers for the best secret spot, stand up paddle is for everyone and has no limits that traditional surfing has. I would even go as far to say that SUP is more traditional due to its history. Yes, stand up paddle has been around longer that recreational wave surfing. It was a one of the major transportation methods used by the island dwellers going back centuries, but only recently has it become popularized into a sport and free market entrepreneurs pushed…

The universe that humans currently exist in is so enormous that our minds cannot grasp how immense it is. There are terms that were invented to help us understand it more efficiently, however, even with our modern technology, we only get about half way to comprehending our universe. For example, the nearest star is Alpha Centauri, it is approximately twenty-five trillion miles away from Earth. Light travels over one-hundred and eighty thousand miles per second, even then, it would take light over four years to arrive there if it left from our planet. Does this not make you feel small and insignificant? This is precisely how the narrator felt in Stephen Crane’s, “The Open Boat”, as he and his men were floating among the vast sea, in a thrilling yet dangerous experience. One of the most fervent metaphysical questions about life and the universe is the notion explored in this…

"None of them knew the color of the sky." This first sentence in Stephen Crane's "The Open Boat" implies the overall relationship between the individual and nature. This sentence also implies the limitations of anyone's perspective. The men in the boat concentrate so much on the danger they are in, that they are oblivious and unaware to everything else; in other words, maybe lacking experience. "The Open Boat" begins with a description of four men aboard a small boat on a rough sea. The central theme of this story is about confronting Nature itself. "The Open Boat" is Stephen Crane's account from an outsider's point of view of the two days spent in a small boat. The correspondent is autobiographical in nature; Stephen Crane was shipwrecked off the coast of Florida while working as a war correspondent. The correspondent in "The Open Boat" portrays the author. Mainly through the correspondent, Crane shows the power of nature and how one man's struggle to survive ultimately depends on fate.…

Throughout my reading I have found that Crane uses many symbolic objects to depict true-life events. He uses symbols such as towers, animals, and waves. Crane leaves so much to the reader's imagination that the story can be considered magical and mysterious. The composition leaves many details up to the readers inference, however after further research a full picture to the events that transpired that cold January are uncovered.…

In the essay “American Dream Boat” by K.Oanh Ha, the author says that intercultural relationships are generally a good thing as long as the families of both partners compromise. Ha, was a Vietnamese girl who came to America with the “Boat People” when she was six years old. She then changed her name to Kristine and became Americanized. In college, she met a Caucasian American named Scott. They fell in love and got engaged. She decided to visit Vietnam to reconnect to her roots, but while she was there, her grandmother passed away. According to Vietnamese tradition, Ha couldn’t get married during the mourning period, which was three years. However, Ha and Scott’s family decided to compromise. Scott’s family brought traditional gifts in order to fulfill the traditions of a Vietnamese wedding ceremony while Ha’s family decided to let her get married without having to wait three years. I believe that intercultural relationships like Ha’s are generally a good thing as long as the families accept and respect each other’s culture and traditions.…
