Saftee Acid
In order to complete a shoulder mount for a taxidermy animal the hide must go through several processes. First of which involves removing all of the flesh from the hide, once this is complete the hide goes into a solution known as the pickling processes. Once to this stage there are several products that may be used in order to complete a pickled fur. There are three main components to creating a pickling solution; these consist of sulfuric acid, non-iodized salt, and water. This solution is very powerful and requires the taxidermist to wear thick rubber protective glove when dealing with the solution. Due to the amount of different acids on the market it can be very …show more content…
When using Saftee Acid there is no need to check or maintain your solution as Saftee Acid almost has a mind of its own. All of these chemical reactions to pickle a hide take place at the same time but will not if the PH (Power of Hydrogen) level is not correct. When using traditional Acids the taxidermist must continually check and maintain his PH levels, if not maintained properly the hides could be ruined or insufficiently pickled which will in turn lead to considerably much faster deterioration of whatever he or she may be mounting. With Saftee Acid this cannot occur, as the acid is maintaining the chemical reaction within the solution! Another issue that could become a health concern is whenever the taxidermist is moving animal hides in and out, emptying, or creating new solutions he or she is putting themselves at risk as if the acid comes in contact with the skin it can burn until properly washed off, or worse if the acid come in contact with the eyes it could cause permanent damage such as blindness. With Saftee Acid this is no longer a concern! The Acid contains the same beneficial chemicals needed to produce perfectly pickled hides but does not contain any of the harmful chemicals that causes
