Rushabh Monologue
The wind flowed across the streets, carrying the sounds of laughter and happiness. I shivered slightly as I turned to my friends and breathed in the cold air. Nathaniel looked at his watch, “It’s seven forty-five, we have about thirty more minutes,” I glanced at my friend, he was wearing a black robe with a mask that had blood dripping down it and it was as scary as a nightmare about Jingles the clown. He was a grim reaper sort of thing. Audrey was a drummer and was wearing an AC/DC hoodie and black boots and holding two Hard Rock Cafè drumsticks. My friend Tom was Donald Trump. He had a Donald Trump mask and was wearing a suit. Rushabh was a knight and Aysha and Miranda were Hogwarts students. Sammie was a “Hooded Hunter” and I was an angel. …show more content…
Laughing we went to the house next door to them as we rang the doorbell when the door was opened, we all yelled “Trick-or-treat!” holding the candy bowl out in front of her the woman pulled a small gift bag and gave it to Sammy. We were all happily chatting as we walked next door, turning to Nathaniel I said, “You should totally put your mask on to scare them,” He agreed and put his hand in his pillowcase and tried to find his mask. His eyes went wide as he realized that he had lost it. When we rang the doorbell, Mrs. Tracy opened the door, she opened it very slowly, there was smoke leaking out the door and she was wearing a costume and held a bowl of candy. After we had gotten candy from her we began the walk to my house. We stopped at houses along they way, not that many, though when we reached the three-way stop my dad stopped us and said we should go to one house before hand. We all went to that house and got even more candy. Then, we walked over to my house. We rang the doorbell and my dad threw open the door and grinned and held out the bowl of candy. “Trick or treat!” we all chorused and held out our bags for candy. My dad laughed and dumped the entire bowl of candy into our

As the narrator, Melinda Sordino, awaits her first day as a freshman at Merryweather High she describes, “the school bus wheezes to my corner” (pg 3). The authors’ use of personification describes the heaviness and panic that is set into the setting. When Melinda arrives at school, she describes, as others’ talk behind her back, the feeling that “words climb up my throat” (pg 5). This personification describes the want to speak up but is silenced by her feelings of anger and disparity. Melinda’s experience so far at high school hasn’t been perfect, but has rather worn her out “my bed is sending out serious nap rays… The fluffy pillows and warm comforter are more powerful than I am” (pg 16). This passage shows that she would…

Modern Halloween has become less literal about ghosts and ghouls and more about costumes and candy. The holiday is overflowing with action on its reserved night. Kids are so anxious to drag their parents out the door, show off their creative costumes, and ring their first doorbell for a fun-filled night of trick-or-treating as soon as the dismissal bell for school rings. High school students wait until the whole group of friends is together before they head out into the misty darkness with only the flickering street light to guide them. Meanwhile, adults are sipping on their witches brew at a local party or nightclub.…

Don’t be scared children, you’re all safe now, but you wouldn’t have been exactly twenty years ago today. When the carriage stopped in front of the townhouse, Boudreaux bid us a good night, and informed us, I felt more for me, than Louis, that he was leaving first thing next morning and traveling to his plantation to oversee the planting. We wished him well and parted ways. I felt Boudreaux’s eyes on me as we walked inside. After we went inside, Louis said that he wished he had told Ransom that he was leaving within the week and going back to Barbados; the unrest there was threatening the cane crop. Although I would miss my husband, I breathed a sigh of relief that he would not be home long and that he had not told Boudreau.…

In the second grade, I had a crippling fear of my teacher, who loved to play, “Let's pick on all the students who aren’t raising their hands.” In my imagination, school was where carnivorous teachers scanned the classroom, looking to slaughter the most helpless creatures. And it seemed like this one had clear intentions of mounting my prized head on the wall. This meant that I suffered from a chronic case of rapid heartbeat, timid eye contact, and tense palms that left imprints of red crescent moons on my thighs.…
