Overall, I enjoyed my attendance at the concert choir held at Benedictine University. The show was well done and I could tell that the members of the choir worked very hard in preparation. Although there were eight songs, the concert went by fairly quick. There was only one baby grand piano in the middle of the stage, but other than that, it was interesting to see that no other instruments were used except for their own voices and they were able to project an excellent performance for the…

I went to see Overture to King Stephen, Op. 117 and Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 36, both composed by Ludwig van Beethoven and performed by Los Angeles Philharmonic at Disney Hall on December 31 2012. The music group consisted of about sixty-three bowed string instrumentalists, ten woodwind instrumentalists, nine brass instrumentalists and four percussion instruments and the conductor is Esa-Pekka Salonen.…

The conductor Mr. Scott Speck took the stage and gave a brief and intriguing introduction of what we were about to see. He conducted and directed the performance with a baton. The first performance lasted for about 20minutes and it was a good piece. What certainly had me so interested and fixated at the players, was the unison among them, as each of them played their different musical instrument. It was the prettiest thing I’ve seen in quite a long time. The view of them moving together and producing music pleasant to the ears, was amazing.…

This was second time I listen to a Jazz concert in our school. Our players always keep a high quality of performance. Besides this relaxed type of performance I also used to go to Chopin’s symphony and other different kind of operas. Listen to a concert performed in the school and played by our schoolmates seems to be more joyful and comfortable. Our players might do not have a professional techniques or organized as the technical symphony orchestra. But their enjoyable and love of music are same which can bring our audience into their atmosphere and move our body along with their playing.…

The second concert was Benin and Ghana led by Dr. Joseph Sheehan. He had studied in Ghana and so organized this beautiful Ghanaian show. I found the piece awesome because, Dr. Sheehan is coming from are different culture. The music was spiced with western instruments, such as; Viola, cello, piano bass, violin but the drums was the only common African instrument. The melody was fascinating, rhythmically exciting with moderate tempo. The vocalist sang with confidence and sometimes with a magnificent pitch. The content was pretty noble and graceful. The beating was regular with a perfect…

After I explored the venue and took in all the surroundings I made my way up to my seat on the left side of the balcony to get ready for the show. As I sat in my seat I paid close attention to the musicians on stage getting their instruments ready for the performance that was to come. Soon after, the president of the symphony, Judith Valles, introduced the symphony’s current music conductor, Maestro Frank Fetta, and the performance began a few moments…

On October 26, 2010, I attended an oboe concert in Parker Theatre. It was such a wonderful experience because I loved the music styles and the stage presence shown by the members of the Hudson Valley Philharmonic String Quartet. This was the first time for me to see a performance in the theatre. When I got a ticket and entered the concert hall, I was surprised because compared to the other concert hall, Mckenna Theatre, the place was smaller and the stage was middle of the hall, and seats were set half way around the stage which was interesting to me. There were five performers which used five different kinds of instruments: oboe, piano, violin, viola, and cello. They were stylistically different pieces that allowed me to experience the various sounds of music. It was a short concert, which I found interesting, and I felt like staying there after the concert. Since I sat in the center of the hall and in the second row from the front, the scale of each performance was energetic and lively.…

The concert was labeled on youtube as a Bangladesh concert. The musical artists played Indian music, and there didn’t seem to be a composer. Every one just seemed to know how to play together. By being an active listener I learned that different cultures sometimes have very different musical styles. Most musical styles touch on all elements of SHMRGO. It was really neat to see how differently Indian music is put together. It’s obvious that they’re extremely talented musicians because they have to incorporate twice as many notes (semi-tones and quarter-tones) than whats typical to us, and they all did it so well. The type of instruments I think were used were the chordophones sitar, santoor, ektara, and the getnu. Also, I think either a bansuri, a venu, or a fiti was used (aerophones); and I’m almost positive that the dhad was played percussion wise. I think these instruments were played, but there were definitely a lot more instruments played than just these. The mood of concert definitely seemed like it was met to interpret happiness and excitement. As I mentioned, there was no one composer. However, the artists did communicate with each other through body language, and that was really interesting to watch play out.The Bangladesh concert performance was definitely interesting and educational, but for the most part it wasn’t pleasing to my ears, simply because I’m not accustomed to the style of music that was played. I completely respect the music that was played, and I honor that it’s different from the music that I listen to. To be frank, the pieces sounded like organized chaos. However, over it time it may become something I’d listen to for fun. Watching this concert definitely made me curious as to what different cultures think when they hear musical styles that are common to…

On Friday night, November 22th, a great concert was held again in the Sean O’Sullivan Theatre of Brock University. This concert was performed by four young, energetic, and talent musicians: Vera Alekseeva play a violin, Austin Hitchcock plays a French horn, and Karin Di Bella plays piano. When I entered the theatre, my eyes were immediately caught by a beautiful piano on the stage under the bright light. Some students were taking pictures of the instruments. Before the concert start, the musicians were briefly introduced themselves and descript about the pieces they going to play. The audiences were exciting and interesting for the concert. It was a perfect opportunity to experience such a wide variety of music.…
