Since 1985, eleven different versions of the High Mobility, Multi-Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) have been in service. The Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) is being developed by the Army and the Marine Corps as a successor to the HMMWV. The Department of Defense (DoD) initiated the JLTV program to replace its aging fleet of the HMMWV. The purpose of this essay is to determine if the high cost of the JLTV should preclude it from replacing the HMMWV as outlined in the 2010 Tactical Wheeled Vehicle Strategy. Because of the cost, an inability to meet joint requirements and the presence of feasible alternatives, the Department of Defense should not continue acquisition of the JLTV.…

    Army Crews

The Army Varsity Crew failed as a team, in my opinion because there was no trust or confidence amongst the team members. It was clear that there was no team effort working towards the same goal; instead it was eight individuals doing their own thing, with no goals. Coach P had been so driven to excel at the National Championship that he discounted or chose to ignore the psychological piece when he put together the varsity team. Although the Junior Varsity team may have been the bottom eight rowers, they formed as a team with a goal and did not individualize it.…

From my personal experience, team related questions are the most frequently asked questions in job interviews. Companies want to know the interviewees’ experience with diversified teams, because they want to know the type of team player of the interviewee. As most companies function in the unit of a team, it is increasingly important for employees and managers to understand how a team works, and how to transit smoothly from different stages. The Army Crew Team case reveals the frustration associated with declining performance by the varsity boat at the United States Military Academy. The symptoms are obvious, but the root causes lie underneath the symptoms. Multiple factors from multiple parties contributed to the situation. The best solution that addresses the root causes will be discussed in the conclusion.…

December 30th: First day at sea and already the sea sickness is starting to get to me, but it’s not that bad, because this is for science. We are off the coast of Vigo and it’s raining real badly today. The boat is rocking back and forth but we still tried to do some research. A dredge took samples along the surface of the seafloor while being dragged across the bottom. We got some samples of mud, and collected small organisms off the bottom.…
