Rounding Mixed Decimals to the Nearest Tenth
Collaboration Essay
For this essay I will be giving my thoughts and feeling about how important it is to collaborate with others as you create your lesson plans for your students. Collaborating with other teachers is essential. I was taught that one pair of eyes do a good job; several sets of eyes do a fantastic job. While I was looking over the standards that I wanted to use for my lesson I was very aware that there may be several standards in several subjects that I may be utilizing in my lesson. As I talked with the host teacher she was impressed that I used more than subject’s standards to create and present my lesson. I also learned that by collaborating with the host teacher, she was able to give me a little insight as to the things her students would enjoy and things that probably wouldn’t go over that well with her students. Having this information only helped me more to know how to help them to be able to have the opportunity to learn and to be comfortable in class.
As I watched the video for this particular lesson, I was impressed how both of the teachers were able to recall and help one another with different activities they had planned for their units. They were very open and seemed to want to help one another create the best units they could. I think that they showed that collaborating with another teacher or team can be very beneficial instead of hindering. I pre-scheduled a time to talk with my host teacher after creating my first lesson plan. It gave me a concrete time first of all to have my first draft ready to go over and discuss. My host teacher was very open about her thoughts and what she would keep, change and add. I think that overall she was very pleased with what it was I prepared for this particular lesson. She was really excited to see how the student’s collages turned out as was I. I think that if I could do things differently in regards to analyzing my plan, I would have talked with more about other standards that she

Blue’s class she reminded them of the Bill Nye video that they had watch, and the kids remember lots of things from the video. This was a great way to get the students engaged and to help with a visual representation. She also gave each of them a chance to explain their reason and definitions with the whole class. She kept the students engaged by having them all take turns reading and highlight as they went along. Her role was to present questions for the students, who were to think about the answer and then share with one another. It was a good idea to spilt the students in to partners to discuss. In Mr. G’s he explained that the students had only been giving him work that was about fifty percent effort. He did allow for students to take out there phone and take pictures of the board to make sure they had the information. They also were very good at reading along with him and answering his questions out of the book. I think it was a good idea to get the students more engaged in the learning process, by working in smaller groups together. These are both great examples of their responsibility as a teacher to create good creative and instructive…

In 1987, The National Board of Certified Teachers (NBCTs) created a policy of the vision of accomplished teaching that they had. NBCTs also created The Five Core Propositions to “form the foundation and frame the rich amalgam of knowledge, skills, dispositions, and beliefs.” The Five Core Propositions are: teachers are committed to their students and their learning, teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects to the students, teachers are responsible for monitoring and managing student learning, teachers should think systematically about their practice and learn from experience, and teachers are members of a learning community. All five of these propositions outline what every teacher should know and be able to do. Here is a visual organizer comparing the framework of lesson planning to the…

Being a teacher, and setting up your class to be as productive as it possibly can be relates to the notion of how well planned is the class going to be. Is there going to be any dead spots, confusions, or even misunderstandings between the student and the teacher? Ultimately lesson planning is the essential fixer to all of the unwarranted questions that as a teacher you do not want to deal with on a daily basis. In lesson planning there is, in essence, multiple ways to lesson plan. Those ways are through SIOP, Madeline Hunter and sometimes UBD. All of these have its benefits on what it focuses on most to keep the students engaged in the classrooms teachings but we will focus on the aspects of SIOP and Madeline Hunter.…

To ensure a well-run, purposeful program that is responsive to participant needs, there are many standards I exercise within my classroom. My teaching practices include following a pre-set calendar populated with planned activities. It is important to have a plan for each day so that we can transition the children easily from one event to another. Children react better to their schedule when they know what to expect and have a sense of control over their routine. I also believe it is important for the families to know what to expect each day. My calendar includes activities that contribute to both short term and long term goals that apply to the class as a whole as well as to each individual child. My co-teacher and I are cooperative workers by sticking to a routine while remaining flexible to the needs of our classroom and students. We also share ideas, listen to one another, express opinions in a respectful manner, and welcome suggestions and ideas from the rest of our…

While Mrs. Corcoran and I discussed about the lesson, we went over last minute details before Maercker Intermediate School’s spring break and the rest of my spring break. Mrs. Corcoran reassured me she will respond to her emails over break to discuss about the co-taught lesson. Mrs. Corcoran approves and enjoys the idea of having students focus on both social skills and math goals throughout this lesson. I learned collaborating with others can be quite nervous racking, but I have full confidence Mrs. Corcoran and I can teach this lesson, and work with another class.…

It was obvious that Ms. Brown had created a plan for this lesson by observing the progression of the skills that were being taught and that they were presented in a logical order that aided student comprehension. Both the students and the teacher were familiar with the skills and the delivery. She also posts lesson plans online. Objectives and expectations of the lesson were communicated to the students on a special place on the board, at the front of the class with essential questions and " I can" statements. Ms. Brown was able to gain the students' attention for the lesson with a hook type activity. It was an engaging question for the student to answer that was related to the topic. Students worked independently, in pairs and in groups and read a selection either by themselves or with another student. The material was then presented in a graphic organizer by the teacher with illustrations and relevant examples provided by the students. They also read the selection (either our loud to a partner or to themselves) and then the material was displayed in the form of a graphic organizer for the visual learners. Ms. Brown used PowerPoint to present the material.…

I found the video to be quite educational. However, I connected most to Ms. Hearn. In regards to Ms. MacLean, I was impressed with her teaching method, but not surprised. One of the main goals when constructing knowledge is being able to link new with existing information. For that occur, teachers must survey their students to discover common interests. By doing so, teachers increase the chance of student comprehension because the lesson being taught is engrossing.…
