“This book demonstrates that a life, no matter how troubled, can still be fulfilling.” Do you agree.

The eponymous ‘Romulus, My father’ illustrates through the bildungsroman memoir the struggles individual are confronted with disintegrates the happiness that fulfils a life. Throughout life, individuals are restricted from obtaining opportunities that could potentially create a fulfilling life. Furthermore, mental illness that spreads through families leaves several individuals depressed and unable to have fulfilment within their lives. The mental illness leads to several to deaths, that evidently, depicts that troubles through life complicates life-becoming fulfilling. Many Individuals were granted opportunities but were unable to grasp, caused trouble and prevented the life of fulfilment. The protagonist Romulus was depicted as a young boy who grew up with a fascination of learning “which came easily to [him].” His enthusiasm for reading was signified as harsh beating were inflicted on him, but his enthusiasm was ‘undiminished.’ Unfortunately for Romulus, when the time came to progress from primary school to secondary school he was giving the opportunity to receive a scholarship, however he was denied this opportunity that prevented ‘ his love of learning (to) never (be) fulfilled.’ In similar vein, John Dunstan was confronted by a similar event, where he was encouraged to part take in a course and strive for a better education. Unfortunately he was left ‘lost’ and ‘unstable’ as his hope for fulfilment was never achieved. As a result of not being able to obtain the fulfilment he desires, he committed suicide.
