Romeo & Juliet
Love is water, it will slip right though your fingers. Throughout history people have fallen in love, and in their relationship something makes a turn for the worst. In the play Romeo & Juliet, Shakespeare reveals how one's environment shapes one's choices by how Romeo changes from being depressed to killing Tybalt and Paris because of revenge and love. Romeo changes because he depressed one minute to in love with Juliet. Romeo also changes from killing Tybalt to killing Paris because he defied Romeo. The first reason that Romeo changes is because he is depressed that Rosaline does not love him. In this section of the play, Romeo is trying to get over his first love, Rosaline. "Out of her favor where I am in love" (Act 1, Scene 1, Line 173). This quote is about how Rosaline broke up with Romeo and he doesn't know what to do. He's clearly obsessed with her. In this section of the play, Romeo visits Juliet in the garden & speaks up when she says why he is named Romeo. "I'll take you at your word call me 'Love', and I'll be newly baptized. From now on , I'm finished with 'Romeo'" (Act 2, Scene 2, Lines 53-55). This quote is about how Romeo says Juliet doesn't have to call him 'Romeo' but to call him 'Love' because his name belongs to a Montague, her only enemy. Overall, Romeo is trying to recover from a previous relationship and then falls in love with Juliet at first sight at her house party. The second reason that Romeo changes is because he one moment is madly in love to killing Tybalt because he killed Mercutio. In this section of the play, Romeo finds and confronts Tybalt to tell him that he will pay for Mercutio's death with his own. "This shall determine that" (Act 3, Scene 1, Line 137).This quote is about how Romeo confronts Tybalt to kill him and leave him there to die and vanished to be with Juliet before he is banished from the city. In this section of the play, Romeo is tested by Paris. "Wilt thou provoke me?" (Act 5, Scene 3, Lines 59-60). This

    Throughout the course of the play, Romeo makes rash decisions without putting any forethought into it, and this ultimately leads to the deaths of him, Juliet, and the characters. For example, when Tybalt killed Mercutio, Romeo went after Tybalt and killed him to avenge his friend. Romeo, himself, was even willing to die for his friend and says “Either thou or I, or both, must go with him’ (III.i.125). Though avenging the death of his best friend was a noble action, this incident lead to the banishment of Romeo which caused the death of his mother and other problematic events that transpires later on in the tragedy. Also, at the beginning of the play, Romeo declares he loves a girl named Rosaline and his causes him to fall into a period of depression because she rejects his love for her. However, after he spends a small fraction of time with Juliet, Romeo completely forgets about the girl he was pining after and switches to Juliet without a second thought. Less than twenty-four hours after he meets Juliet, Romeo marries her even though he has only known her for a miniscule amount of time.
