Romeo and Juliet Essay
In 1597 a tragic story that would become one of the most well know plays was born into the world. And with the birth of Romeo and Juliet came many lessons to be learned. Those lessons have impacted a lot of people around the world, but are they still relevant in today's society? The main lesson is this historic play is that: with fighting, there will be harm. In Act 5, Scene 3 the Prince states that simple lesson, "Where be these enemies? Capulet! Montague! See, what a scourge is laid upon your hate,That heaven finds means to kill your joys with love. And I for winking at your discords too Have lost a brace of kinsmen: all are punish'd." The lesson of Romeo and Juliet still has relevance in today's society in wars, marriages, and friendships.
The Capulet's and Montague's have been in a war with each others families even before Romeo and Juliet's time. With the war between the families a lot of harm came from all the fighting. Tybalt and Mercutio died from fighting each other. In these modern days when a war is occurring, many lives are lost, which just doesn't cause harm to that person. It causes harm to the families of the one lost,to the friends of the lost, and to the country for which they are fighting for. Wars are meant for fighting for what you believe, but with all the harm done is it really worth it in the end?
Of course back in Shakeseperare's time no one had ever heard or thought that in 500 years people would get married more then once. Lady Capulet or Lord Montague wouldn't even know what to do if Lord Capulet or Lady Montague wanted to leave them. In today's society every other family is going through or has gone through a divorce. A main cause of divorce is fighting, which leads to much harm. Every family that has gone through a rough marriage can say harm has come rom the fighting. With marital fighting, children can be harmed, spouses can be harmed, and the overall family can be harmed.
