You love him or hate him but you can’t ignore him in the hinterlands of Haryana and Punjab. We are talking about none other than MSG the acronym associated with the Godman who matters in Haryana and Punjab, Baba Ram Rahim. The man loves to be in news and Mr Anil Vij has very good reason to choose him on a purpose to donate largesse of 50 lakhs and that too on the eve of National Sports Day which incidentally falls on 29th August.

GURMEET-RAM-RAHIM-SINGH

Why a senior minister in Haryana would do something of this sort? Well! To begin with, Baba Ram Rahim and Anil Vij are strange bedfellows when it comes to generating controversies. Baba Ram Rahim has many avatars as he is not your regular Baba; he is much more than that. He is a preacher, spiritual leader, and also an actor.

Incidentally, Gurmeet Ram Rahim was born on 15 August 1967 to a Sikh couple in a place called Modia village in Ganganagar, Rajasthan. He was conferred

The extent of BJP’s support for Baba could be seen in the incident relating to the release of his film MSG when the censor board was unceremoniously packed off. Although he was highly critical of the post-independence Congress party establishment, he was more sympathetic to the right-wing Hindu nationalist movement in India. He refused to criticise the destruction of mosques: "“Muslims do not have the slightest right to complain about the desecration of one mosque in Ayodhya. From 1000 AD every temple from Kathiawar to Bihar, from the Himalayas to the Vindhyas has been sacked and ruined. Not one temple was left standing all over northern India. They escaped destruction only where Muslim power did not gain access to them for reasons such as dense forests. Otherwise, it was a continuous spell of vandalism. No nation with any self-respect will forgive this. What happened in Ayodhya would not have happened had the Muslims acknowledged this historical argument even once.”"[2]…

These repressive measures taken by the British Government basically aimed at combatting the revolutionary activities of revolutanires like Bhagat Singh. In response to this, the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association planned to explode a bomb in the Central Legislative Assembly where the ordinance was going to be passed. This idea was originated in the mind of Bhagat Singh, who was influenced by a similar bombing by a martyr anarchist Auguste Vaillant in the French Assembly. Tha plan was to send Bhagat Singh off to Russia, while Batukeshwar Dutt should carry on the bombing with Sukhdev. Sukhdev then forced Bhagat Singh to call for another meeting and here it was decided, against the initial agreement, that Batukeshwar Dutt and Bhagat Singh would carry on the bombing. Bhagat Singh also disapproved that the two should be escorted after the bombing by the rest of the party.…

Once Again is a piece of social criticism against Indian politicians/voters and targeted at the average Indian voter. Its purpose is to inform the audience of the propaganda they are subjected to and confront them with them hatred they hold onto, allowing themselves to be manipulated. Inspired by the belief that “the best books… are those that tell you what you know already,” (1984 pg. 208) my creative take a premise that the audience is semi-aware of; the blatant abuse of religious sentiments in order to generate political support (Natarajan, 2012).…

In the wintry lanes of Bara Mohalla in Hisar, Haryana, a few of the older bystanders still remember the day Gita Devi and Govind Ram were blessed with the arrival of their first-born. Which Govind Ram, they first ask, before answering with a sly rhetorical question that tells you they know why you're here: "Woh Jindal colony wale? (The one from Jindal colony?)" The boy was born on Janmashtami on August 16, 1968. His grandparents had decided to call him Krishna. Now, 45 years later, the world knows him as Arvind Kejriwal, chief minister of Delhi and architect of a hitherto unthinkable political revolution that does not derive its power from religion, caste, class or cadre.…

On December 6th 1992, about a million and a half men, ‘Kar Sevaks’, all members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Bajrang Dal, attacked the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh and reduced the historic mosque to rubble. The demolition was carried out under the supervision of the BJP government. In 1990, BJP leader, L. K. Advani started his infamous Rath Yatra, a nationwide tour making the people across the country aware of the BJP’s struggle to ‘purify’ Ayodhya. During this countrywide tour various highly communal slogans floated around publically. These included Hindi, Hindu, Hindustan; garv se kaho hum Hindu hain; Ramlala hum aayenge, mandir wahin banaenge; tel laga lo dabur ka, naam mita do Babar ka. Advani was even arrested for hate speech on the 23rd of October 1990.…

That was it. The ruling party Awami League got the cue and presumably used a man called Syed Rezaul Haque to file a blasphemy case against Shibir’s leader ASM Yahia and against four topmost prominent Jamaat leaders: Matiur Rahman Nizami (Jamaat Chief), Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed (Jamaat Secretary General), Delwar Hossain Sayedee (Jamaat Deputy Chief) and Rafiqul Islam Khan (Chief of Jamaat’s Dhaka city unit and the party’s Acting Secretary General). The plaintiff Syed Rezaul Haque filed the case on 21 March 2010 and claimed that Rafiqul Islam Khan compared Nizami to the Prophet Muhammad and thus hurt the religious sentiment of Muslims. Before the case was filed, few people gave any heed to what Rafiqul Islam Khan had said in the small gathering of 17 March 2010.…
