"Set during the Spanish Civil War. Robert Jordan - the main character - an American volunteer teacher who receives a mission to blow up a strategic bridge in the mountains. There he met the guerrillas and a girl - Mary. That is all. His whole life within three days - a real and intense than ever before. For three days he met his best friend, the most insidious enemy, his great love.
The protagonist is not stupid nor blind idealist. He sees well machinations, sbalaska political interests that hide behind big words. Sees chaos and petty squabbles turn ideals into gibberish. But he also understands that no matter what the world is and where it goes others. It is important only what he will do. The whole world, everything is concentrated in him,
