Robert Greenleaf's Principles Of Servant Leadership
Robert Greenleaf’s and Christianity’s principles of servant leadership have striking similarities. Greenleaf’s principles design the way a servant leader can help the followers sense their potential. Dr. Raymond Reyes, in his video, explains the principles as being the practical versions of words such as empathy, compassion, respect and so on. As per him, it is the method that shows the greatest promise for the greatest good for all (Reyes, 2010). Matthew 20:20-28 is about the significance of serving others to earn an honorable position as one desires. Serving as a Leader
According to both Greenleaf and Christianity, a leader should be able to serve others, love and treat them as the way they wanted to be loved and treated. As per Matthew 20:20-28, Jesus explained to the mother of Zebedee’s sons that, it is through serving, one will become great and attain the position to lead. The servant leaders should enable their followers to identify their strengths (Greenleaf, Senge, Covey & Spears, 2002). These leaders should be in a position to realize other’s purpose in life and assist those around them to realize the purpose of honoring others, oneself and God.

One has to know to serve first, before being a leader per this belief. For instance, in Matthew 20:20-28 verse, Jesus advised, to be the servant to become great and eligible to lead. This belief is the basis of Greenleaf’s principles also. The people need those ones who are able to serve them and sustain them with one’s spirit (Greenleaf et al., 2002). Such a person can guide them by caring. By being the servant, one gets to know others, their needs and wants. This will give the chance for a servant leader to serve the people appropriately.
