The Most Misread Poem in America Robert Frost’s well known poem “The Road Not Taken” has essentially “taken” over American literature and culture by storm. However, the poem seems to have been ripped to shreds as people tend to use fragments of it for their personal purposes. Its famous title and words can be found from the lyrics in various singers’ songs to authors’ books that have been ranked international best sellers using these words. This has caused the poem lose its true value and meaning. Contrary to popular belief, the publicity and popularity that the poem encompasses is due to all the wrong reasons (Orr). The article suggests that the poem “may be the best example in all of American culture of a wolf in sheep’s clothing” (Orr).
