HRIS Implementation at Riordan Manufacturing
As a leader in the manufacture of plastic injection molding, Riordan Manufacturing (henceforth referred to as the company) corporate location is based in San Jose, CA. The company has made acquisitions in three other locations in the United States and one in The Peoples Republic of China. During the acquisition process the company did not plan for the integration of the separate human resources systems used by the acquired company's. The corporate Human Resource Information System (HRIS) at Riordan Manufacturing was installed in 1992 (Riordan, 2004). The HRIS at the company needs to be brought up-to-date. In bringing the companies HR system up to industry standards; their data will be in a single location for easy access. In order for the system to meet company needs input from the HRIS primary users, executives (for final approval), managers and IT will need to be gathered to propose a new system design. The service request SR-rm-004 is for an analysis to integrate a state-of-the art, information systems technology for the Human Resources department. Company Background

Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. was founded by Dr. Riordan, a professor of chemistry. Dr. Riordan had obtained several patents relative to processing polymers into high tensile strength plastic substrates. He started Riordan Plastics, Inc. in 1991. In 1992, the company name was changed to Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. and the company is an industry leader in the field of plastic injection molding (Riordan, 2009). The company has facilities in Albany, Georgia; Pontiac, Michigan; San Jose, California; and Hangzhou, China. The company is wholly owned by Riordan Industries, a Fortune 1000 enterprise with revenues in excess of $1 billion. Its products include plastic beverage containers produced at its plant in Albany, Georgia; custom carton plastic parts produced at its plant in Pontiac, Michigan; and plastic fan parts produced at its facilities in Hangzhou, China. The company's research and development is done at the corporate headquarters in San Jose. Riordan's major customers are automotive parts manufacturers, aircraft manufacturers, the Department of Defense, beverage makers and bottlers, and appliance manufacturers. Implementation Stage

Now that the information-gathering and design phases have been completed the project moves to the implementation phase. All the flow charts and data flow diagrams are taken to the software developers to begin the process of creating the code for the new system. The developers have a difficult process a head of them as they create each part of the system and then attempt to incorporate all these parts into one user friendly system. Based on the project design phase it has been determined that an input, process, and output (IPO) order will be used to develop the new HRIS for the company. This allows the developers to code the process and modules that produce input first, and then progress to the modules that process the input, and finish with the modules that provide output to the user (Satzinger, Jackson, & Burd, 2004). This process should take place within a source code control type program that will keep the work of multiple developers in one centralized location. This source code control program can also provide a means of keeping track of the multiple versions of the system that will be developed. Testing

Once the coding process has been completed the new system will need to be tested to verify that it conforms to the business needs of the company. This process can be one of the longest activities performed on the new system and are used to verify that the new system will meet the minimum standards that have been determined during the information-gathering phase of the development cycle.
