Rikki Tikke Analysis
Rikki-tikki-tavi The story starts off by introducing the main character, which is a mongoose named Rikki-tikki. Rikki-tikki is also the protagonist of the story. The antagonist or enemy was the two cobras whose names were Nag and Nagaina who were not the nicest in the bunch. Rikki was washed away from his family in a giant storm and ended up by a bungalow in India in the late 1800’s.. In this bungalow lived the family Rikki was destined to protect. The family included Teddy, who was the son, and his parents. Darzee the tailorbird was not the brightest crayon in the box. He could only think about one thing and would only sing and not pay attention while on the other hand his wife was the exact opposite. Karait a little brown snake was the start to all the trouble. In the end, Rikki would rain triumphant to the story. Before Rikki was to end up with Teddy he was washed away from his own family of mongooses. He wanders into the garden hoping to have a pleasant walk when he hears a hiss. It was in fact Nag the big cobra and the tailorbird warns him while he is distracted to watch out as Nag’s wife, Nagaina strikes and misses the blow. When he goes home he protects Teddy from Karait the small snake. Next he talks to Chuchundra the chubby muskrat and gets some advice when he hears a faint sound like …show more content…
As he is sleeping he bites just above the hood and the get into a rustle and tussle. In the end he kills him as the dad fires a shotgun into Nag and he is put onto the rubbish heap. Nagaina is very mad when Darzee’s wife distracts her and brings her to Rikki who is waiting with the last baby cobra egg in his mouth. The family sits there almost paralyzed as they watch the fight between Rikki and Nagaina go down. Nagaina brings him to a very dangerous spot as a mongoose rarely comes out of a cobra hole. In the end, Rikki remains victorious as he kills the great

    Rikki Tikki is a brave character in this story. In one example, Rikki said to Nag, “Do you think it is right for you to eat fledglings out of a nest?”(para 25).
