Before 1920 a few women attended seminary or an academy for women to learn and be educated but women were not allowed to attend universities and college campuses; this was for men only and women believed they too could benefit from obtaining a degree and becoming part of the work force, helping their families and being able to move up the ladder economically. This was considered by many women as the beginning of a long fight to establish their rights and place in the world. Women believed they deserved the same opportunities as men in regards to education. Women for years attended the seminary and academies that they were allowed but continually fought to attend a college or university, even fighting to attend co-educational colleges with men; this was an upward climb but women were determined to become part of society and their families as equals.…

Both the Black Rights Movement and the Women Rights Movement in America have their roots embedded in the 1800s Abolitionist organizations meaning they had collective members, methods, and goals. Despite having numerous similarity points, the two movements would become fierce rivals in the later stages of the second half of the nineteenth century. This is because throughout the Reconstruction era or rather the Civil War and Antebellum years, the two movements cultivated different objectives and methods especially when it came to matters of suffrage. In this, by 1860, majority leaders in the two movements disagreed on existing political structures and the relationship between the movements. The leaders equally differed on whether Black people…

Before World War II no one believed women had a place in the military, yet women overcame this and helped the United States reach victory. Women felt they needed and wanted to get involved in the war instead of sitting at home, taking care of the children, cooking dinner, and cleaning the house. Women joined military support organizations like the WACs, the WAVES and the WASPs. These kinds of organizations contributed immensely toward the United States war effort. Women felt that if men could serve in the war, they could, too. Women relieved men of certain jobs so the men could go fight in the war. Women worked hard and took the men’s places, but they could not fight or get close to battle. Women’s roles in the war changed society, and lasted long after the United States declared victory.…
The family life in this time period was changing. As the economy strengthened, the man of a household was able to make enough money to support his family. This allowed many of the women to be able to stay home and care for the children and keep up the house. This became the normality, and women who did not conform to this pattern were looked down upon. The inequality of women’s rights was a pretty big topic in this time period. Feminists made some major victories in the advancements of women’s rights such as the 1882 law that gave English married women the right to own land. With the separation of roles between man and women, the women took control over most of the families domestic and cultural decisions. Married couples in this time…
Women's rights during the 1800s changed drastically. In the beginning of the century, a woman had few freedoms, and her identity was linked directly with her husband and his property. She had no right to her own property, money children or any privileges as far as voting or statements in any law making decisions. As things progressed in the 1800s, things moved forward for women. They gained more rights, including the right to vote. Although there were many other major changes for women in the 1800s that were also very important to changing the woman's role in society. The divorce and matrimonial causes act and the custody of children act are both big legislation’s that changed the role of women towards the end of the 19th century.…

America has been through many challenges and has enjoyed even more achievements between the times of 1877 to the 1930. In this space of time women have come out of their homes to work and even more importantly they fought for the right to vote. African American men, Native Americas men, and Anglo-Saxon men all had the right to vote but women did not have any constitutional right until they came together and won it. In 1890, only 4% of children between the ages of 14 years and 17 years were enrolled in school by 1930 this number raised to 47%. This increase in number was the result of standard education.…
Nowadays, women seem to have an entitlement in this world; an entitlement that gives them authority and a voice. However, to get this prerogative, women had to go through difficult times and diligent work. Since the 1800’s, women were feeling the urge of gaining rights that they didn’t have. Due to this desire, a group of women decided to get together and organize their thoughts to establish a document in which they would incorporate the rights they wanted to acquire. With this in mind, the first women’s rights convention was launched in Seneca Falls with the purpose of discussing all of the issues regarding this topic. Therefore, the events of Seneca Falls, as well as the people who contributed in it, were of great impact on women’s rights.…
Women weren’t given the right to free speech and if they did speak out, they would have been punished or attacked by angered men. In the eyes of men and society, women were only good for being housewives and caring for their families. Nobody thought that women were ready to have their rights. Women should have been treated equal because it is stated that “All men are created equal…” but that right was denied. Men were allowed to do what they pleased, while women received backlash if they even thought about going against the society. Women were definitely denied their promised rights and it wasn’t until the 19th Amendment was passed that they could…
t was a long and difficult struggle for women to gain the right to vote in the United States. Equality between the sexes has been an issue for centuries, not just in modern times. A British author even wrote in 1792, "The Vindication of the Rights of Women" because she felt that women were not treated equally. The modern day struggle was kicked off though in 1848. This was the year of the first women's rights convention, which was held in Seneca Falls, New York. It was not until over 70 yeas later that women were finally given the right to vote when the 19th amendment was completely ratified in 1920.…
Women’s Rights Throughout history change has occurred throughout the United States. . Change occurred for men, citizens with disabilities, and even blacks. White men were considered superior to women and African Americans. In the 19th century women were not equal to men in the United States. Women's rights have been a strong issue for many years. I have heard arguments of all kinds regarding this issue. Some people have said that women and men are equal in America, and others have said that women are treated better than men. Though they had their points (and wouldn’t listen to mine), women are not equal to men. Some of the things that aren't equal for both sexes are cost of products, pay, parental leave, and representation. The fact that these things aren't equal in our society today is crazy. Women should have the same rights and opportunity as men.…
