Richard Nixon's Watergate Scandal
Richard Nixon was the 37th President of the United States. He was the first president in the United States visit China. He also became the only president to resign the office due to the Watergate scandal which was a serious political scandal that occurred in June 17, 1972.

Watergate scandal occurred when five burglars who working for Nixon’s re-election campaign were arrested inside the office of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), located in the Watergate complex in Washington, D.C. They were accused on install bugging device and bugging/monitor Democractic’s conversation. Because it was the time during the presidential election, Nixon wanted to monitor and figure out what Democractic were doing and talking about, so he could get re-elect

    The start of the 1970s was a period of inclining distrust in the National Government. The Pentagon Papers revealed the government’s purposeful deception of the actions undergoing in Vietnam and the American people realized that they’d been deceived. Americans were in shock when the National Guard engaged in opened fire at the scene of a Kent State University protest resulting from President Nixon's authorization for the United States to attack Cambodia. A total of four students were killed in the process. Nixon then attempted to cover up illegal actions by himself and his administration which further angered the American people. In June 1972, five men sporting cameras and bugging equipment were charged with arrest within the Democratic National Committee's offices in the Watergate complex in Washington, D.C. Soon after the authorities discovered that the burglars were employed, directly or indirectly, for the Committee to Re-Elect the President.     Nixon ran for a second term in office as President of the United States and won; by a landslide might I add. Soon after elections; on July 16 everything that had been kept quiet changed. Alexander Butterfield, a White House aide, before the Senate committee revealed that there was existence in the White House of a secret taping system. In the end the tapes revealed that Nixon had recorded all of his telephone conversations, including those in which he ordered his subordinates to cover up the fact that they had hired burglars to break into the Democratic National Headquarters in the Watergate Hotel.
