Richard D. James is also known as AFX, Caustic Window, The Tuss, Polygon Window, GAK, as well was many others, but most notably Apex Twin is an Irish-born British electronic musician and composer. Born August 18, 1971 in Limerick, Ireland, but he grew up in Lanner, Cornwall, UK, with two older sisters and a mother Lorna James and father Derek James. He currently lives in Scotland with his wife and two kids. James 's first name was originally given by his parents to his older brother. James’s parents gave birth to a son a three years before James was born. That son passed away at birth, but James's mother would never let his death go and when James was born, he was given the same name as his brother. This is James's last album during the 90s to emphasize analog synthesizers. With the release of his fourth studio album in 1995 as Aphex Twin, the Richard D. James album was where James began showing the use of software synthesizers and unconventional beats. The following year came the release of his Come to Daddy EP, along with a video directed by Chris Cunningham for the albums’ title track. The Come to Daddy EP would bring much success James’s way, though he did not take it well. A few years later he would release the Windowlicker EP. With much success, but very little in the way of promotion or live concerts. As the 21st-century came to be, James found himself the experimenting with the ideas of prepared piano and exploration of digital technology. With the approach of 2001 the release of Drukqs came about. A double album that consisted of extremely fast-paced meticulously programmed songs with random tracks thru out of computer-controlled pianos.
