Al Gore Jr. was the forty-fifth vice president of the U.S. and is well-known for his environmental advocacy work and his famous writings on environmental issues (Weisser, 2015, pg. 101). In his article “Climate of Denial,” he passionately describes how the world is very uneducated on the environmental issues of today. This article was originally published in a Rolling Stone magazine, and therefore his audience was directed towards a group of mainstream young adults. This magazine largely focuses on actors, television, and pop music. The purpose of Al Gore’s article is too inform and enlighten a young progressive generation on the environmental issues of today. Al Gore makes the appeal to ethics through his experience researching environmental problems. He also affirms that he chairs the Alliance for Climate Protection, a grassroots action planning society (Weisser, 2015, pg. 111). Al Gore has received a Nobel Peace Prize for his work on climate change activism. Gore appears to be a very intelligent, well-informed man. His facts and arguments are supported and affirmed. In his article, he explains, “…the scientific consensus…has been endorsed by every National Academy of science of every major country on the planet, every major professional scientific society related to the study of global warming and 98 percent of climate scientists throughout the world” (Gore, 2011). Al Gore, however, is not a scientist. He graduated from Harvard with a high degree in government and eventually became a politician (“Al Gore Biography,” n.d.). However, by citing credible sources and establishing himself as knowledgeable and educated on the subject, Gore makes a very appealing
