Rhetorical Analysis of Advertisement
Ultra Broadband- Waiting is Over This interesting advertisement was made by Saatchi and Saatchi for Telecom Ultra Broadband. This commercial is made to show the ability of Telecom by focusing on the dreaded loading bars and buffering wheels that every person has to deal with when using internet. By showcasing a number of striking images frustratingly paused, this company brilliantly takes on something that most people can relate to. This advertisement makes appeals to two of the Three of the Modes of Persuasion, truly making it a very effective and useful advertisement for Telecom. First, with Ethos, the advertisement shows that Telecom Ultra-Broadband is very credible. This is done through three ways. First is the vibrant and colorful images that are shown throughout the commercial. The colors show what the Broadband company is capable of, showing that they known what they are talking about. Second, is the variety of situations the commercial presents. This shows that Telecom “knows what it is talking about,” because it understands all the needs for broadband. The final way they apply to Ethos is through the text in the end. It says, “The Wait is Over.” This shows that the company is confident in its product, and that the audience should be too. Second, the commercial makes appeals to Pathos, or emotion. They do this in a number of ways. First, Saatchi and Saatchi present images and situations which relate-able, making the mind feel a connection with the advertisement and company. Second, they chose music which is slow and sad but becomes faster and more uplifting, showing the difference between other broadband companies and Telecom. Lastly, they use the opening of the eyes of the man in the last situation to apply to pathos. They do this by having his eyes open in a surprised or enlightened way, showing that because he just connected to Telecom Ultra-Broadband he was able to see what was going on and understand the situation around him.
