A RFID BASED LIBRARY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Library is a growing organism. As it grows in size the problems associated with the maintenance and security of the documents also grows (Narayanan et al., 2012). To solve the problems of arranging and searching documents, books, space and time librarians used different techniques (e.g., bar-codes) to digitize the documents and share over network. Bar-codes have served the librarians and libraries for a long time, and now it is getting replaced by RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification). C
Radio frequency identification (RFID) falls under the category of automatic data collection (ADC) technologies. It is used to describe a system that transfers the identity of an object or person wirelessly, using radio waves. RFID was invented in 1969, patented in 1973, first used in harsh industrial environment in 1980s’, and standards were presented in 2001. It is the latest addition of technology to be used in the libraries for a combination of automation and security activities in the well maintenance of documents either inside the library or goes out-of library.
RFID System Components
RFID system has the following key components:
RFID tags that are electronically programmed with unique information. A reader connected to the Library Information System.
An antenna connected to the reader.
A server to receive and decode the information and to communicate with the automated
library system. D Problem in Existing System
Today most of the libraries are operated manually and staff intensive. There is a large amount of routine procedures that is difficult for searching a specific book from data arranged in documents/registers. Books are often stolen and are not...
