Directions: Choose three of the six topics provided on Modern Genetics. Complete the following questions for each topic.
Topic #1
Give a brief description of your topic. Be sure to include how it is being used by genetic scientists.(A minimum of four sentences)

My topic is on cloning. Cloning is creating a genetically similar copy of another organism.
Scientists clone humans and animals for many reasons like for research, drug productions, and figuring out diseases. Genetic scientists use cloning for medical purposes like cloning animal models for diseases, stem cell research, and creating drug production.

Give your opinion on this topic.
I think cloning is bad because if we genetically alter clones and develop people to be perfect beings then there will not be diversity and there will be problems because people will be choosing selected genes to make the perfect child. Everyone will have the same bodies and diseases will kill a lot of humans because they are all the same. Cloning is also a big moral issue because the concept of making people could interfere or disrupt people’s beliefs and religions.

Topic #2 Gene therapy
Give a brief description of your topic. Be sure to include how it is being used by genetic scientists.(A minimum of four sentences)

Cloning is the genetic copy of another organism. Scientist use gene therapy because it’s essential for people. You can use cloning to understand genetic diseases, provide treatments for a variety of diseases, provide organs for transplants, and much more. Scientists use many diverse forms of cloning. The different types of cloning are reproductive, DNA cloning, and therapeutic cloning. Reproductive cloning is cloning using sex cells to make a another organism. Therapeutic cloning is the production of human embryo’s for research. DNA cloning is taking a part of DNA and putting it in another.

Give your opinion on this topic.
I think gene therapy is bad because people would be defensive towards clones because they might be more excelled then regular humans. Clones also have a shorter life span then humans, and there will be less diversity in the world because people will be selectively choosing their offspring. Less diversity allows diseases to be spread because people will be the same and that may lead to a lot of deaths.

While a large portion of society do not believe that we should clone any species there is the portion that whole heartedly support the quest to prefect not only the cloning of animals but the cloning of humans. By cloning we can create new ways to fight diseases and other health problems by doing things like cloning a liver for a person whose is shutting down. Many people argue whether cloning is unethical or if through genetics the life span of a person may be improved. Human cloning creates questions about the soul, the role of god in society, and even the quality of life that a cloned person would have (Health Research Funding). Cloning is a number of different processes that produce identical copies of DNA. There are three different types of cloning: gene cloning, reproductive cloning, and therapeutic cloning. Gene cloning is the process where copies of genes or segments of DNA. Reproductive cloning is a copy of animals. Therapeutic cloning is embryonic stem cells for experiments to replace injuries or diseased cells. Cloning can be used for many reasons such as medical research, endangered or extinct species could be recreated, reproducing a loved pet that is deceased, cloning livestock for a higher quality milk or meat, and also…

Have you ever wished you could have a clone of yourself to do homework while you sleep or go out with your friends? Imagine if you could really do that. Where would you start? Cloning is a type of genetic engineering; this is the creation of an organism that is an exact genetic copy of another. This in simpler term means that every single bit of DNA is the same between the two. There are three species that can be cloned, which are: human, animal and plant. When the media report on cloning, they are usually talking about the two types of human cloning: reproductive and therapeutic cloning.…

    Is Cloning Wrong

By cloning embryos, it is possible to further medical science, assist people with physical diseases, and doesn't actually focus around cloning a human. To begin with, cloning can be used in the form of cloning embryos to further the field of stem cell research. For example, in the article “Cloning Embryos: Scientific Milestone or Moral Offense?”, it is stated that, “Stem cells taken from adults, though less morally questionable, are less likely to grow outside the body and are not as versatile as embryonic stem cells”. This asserts the idea that although cloning embryos seems wrong, they would not become fully developed humans and instead would be used to help the lives of those with disabilities and medical problems. Stem cells are cells that have the…
